Alice or Alicia?

OK so I loved the name Alicia first time around but I seriously dislike the pronunciation 'aleeesha' and foresaw a lifetime of correcting everyone-- also it seemed to potentially be a little, erm, ghetto chav?

So, this time I am favouring Alice, possibly, but dp disagrees and says Alicia is much prettier. I speak Spanish and will be spending quite a bit of time in spanish speaking countries (post swine flu!) but I still think Alice is more classic.

Hmm I'm not sure... help!?

I'm called Alicia, and I quite like it. I think I have only ever met two people with the same name. My family all call me Alice though, and most of my friends call me Lissy, as a) I got fed up of people mispronouncing it and b) I have a lisp, and it is really embarrasing when people repeat my name back to me as Alithia, especially as that's what the bullies at school used to call me

It really annoys me when people spell my name wrong as well, it's not hard! I know some people give their kids odd spellings, but they do for names like amy and jane as well, yet they get spelt right!

piscesmoon · 04/05/2009 21:36

My daughter's name is Alecia, pronounced A-LEE-SEE-A. However, the only people that call her that is me. Everyone else calls her ALEESHA.

So wish I'd called her Alice

SnortyBartFast · 04/05/2009 12:19

Podrick · 04/05/2009 10:24

Spelling it Alyssia would stop folk calling her Alesha

nappyaddict · 04/05/2009 10:14

Prefer:

Alease
Alisa (a-lee-sa)
Alessa
Alessia
