Ds has just started pre-school and there are some unusual names there, some I love and some not so keen on, but its interesting to see new names I hadnt heard of/considered before!
I live in a pretty conservative area.

Some are

Harmarnie (girl)
Indiana (girl)
Eden (boy)

What unusual ones have you got?

DS2 had a girl in his class called Nevaeh (Heaven backwards). Terrible name.

Wigglesworth · 02/05/2009 10:19

A boy at my DS playgroup is called Blue (yuk). I heard a man calling his kids in a playground they were Benedict and Prayer (equally yuk). A girl at work has called her baby DS Xander.

buzzybee · 02/05/2009 10:18

LadyPinkofPinkerton · 02/05/2009 10:11

BannedInternationalFLight. I'm pretty certain Yonatan will be Jonathan. My cousin s called Jonathan but was brought up in a country where J is pronounced as Y therefore he gets Yonatan

LadyPinkofPinkerton · 02/05/2009 10:10

Our school is very small so not many children. Most unusual names are Paisley and Keelan

I thought about starting a thread about this! DS2's reception class is mostly composed of what I think of as unusual names. Very ethnicly English families, hardly any non-white faces in the entire school.

For instance, just from reception:

Ordinary names with unusual spellings:
Kristian, Jozef

Unusual but classic names:
Tristan, Trinity, Ava, Zara, Lola.

Unusual in all ways:
Kian, Kai, Keeley, Cole, Zaranne (pronounced "Suh-rahn"), Rio, Alisha (var. spellings).

I def. think there is a trend towards more unusual names.

dizzydixies · 02/05/2009 09:11

you and I must be of a similar age

yama · 02/05/2009 09:11

Actually, to me Jackie is a magazine from my childhood. I only know of the footballers as I have brothers.
