Ds has just started pre-school and there are some unusual names there, some I love and some not so keen on, but its interesting to see new names I hadnt heard of/considered before!
I live in a pretty conservative area.

Some are

Harmarnie (girl)
Indiana (girl)
Eden (boy)

What unusual ones have you got?

Orange - Shae is an Irish name, could it have been that?

Iklboo · 13/07/2009 14:01

Goldie-Mae
McKenzie
McCafferty
Braden
Kaden

I met a Dante at the park, and also a Che! Well his mum called him Shay so I presume that's how it was spelt.

I also know a Gilbert. It doesn't get worse than that, surely?

OrmIrian · 13/07/2009 09:35

Kirrily - which is clearly an adverb and not a name!
Velvet - but apparently according to MN that isn't odd at all...oooh no

TheOddOne · 13/07/2009 09:33

I too have been waiting for DS2s name to crop up and it hasn't so far . Clearly no one where i live is an MNer.

In my cousin's school:

Nirvana
Tequila and Champagne (sisters)
Heavenly

All girls.

I am surprised to see Isambard on here: it is a fine name; the name of one of the greatest engineers of all time. I would love Isambard for a son, but my husband has vetoed it because of the inevitable nickname Issy. I used to work with an Isambard (Issy), and no-one batted an eyelid (though they ripped the piss out of his colleage, Elvis).

I really like Eden tho for a girl....is it really that unusual anymore....or sooo awful. I can totally imaging a little Eden, NN Edie.....

there is a dempsey and a mason in my sons class which are pretty unusual...

CurlyCasper · 11/07/2009 16:47

Gail and Logan are both typical Scottish names...

I know of Aaliyah, Torqhuil, Xanthe, Beau, but more recently an Eddie - nice to see it coming back!

I can't stand phoenetically anglicised versions of Celtic names. I think they are beautiful in thei original forms

Ailee for Eilidh
Keeran for Ciaran
Shevon for Siobhan
neeve for Niamh
Breege for Brid
Shawn for Sean etc etc

mumofmaniacs · 11/07/2009 16:33

Was that pronounced Die-on-ee-sis?

We have a Sashaii (reminds me of sachet of course!) and a Sheik

My 'Bob' is really going to be picked on in secondary school at this rate

grumblinalong · 11/07/2009 16:28

Sure this will out me too but hey ho! I know loads of them:

Isambard (hmm)
Ada Enchanted Wood (sweet)
Hal & Logan (brothers)
Gilbert & Woody (brothers - wait with baited breath for dc3 due an day)

It is probably Nigerian JJ6 but I am sure it isn't spelt the way you have. DD has just informed her middle name is Joanne and she will be known as JOanne when she starts secondary. It's a shame because her "Ewoofah" really suits her

hulabula · 11/07/2009 12:28

Tiger

There was a Dionysus at DS's nursery but he's gone to school now.

Friend has called her youngest son Indiana.
