Leonora is beautiful

TwoScrambledEggs · 22/04/2009 12:39

Were it me I would shorten the list to:

Ada Clare Surname
Esther Leonora Surname
Cornelia Ada Surname

Felix Diggory Surname
Kurt Diggory Surname

Rolf and Ralph make me think of vomit for some reason, no idea why

Sorry if you already have your middle names sorted.

nightnightmoon · 22/04/2009 12:34

Ada Clare sounds like I declare.

KittyBigglesworth · 22/04/2009 01:54

Clare - does the world need yet another one? Bland. Use it as a middle name if it has family associations.
Ada - leaves no impression. Fine as a nn. Will people continually say 'Did you say Ava?'
Lilith - ok, for a quirky child but will she just end up being called Lily anyway?
Sybil - Hmm, the Fawlty Towers character might be too much to overcome and she might forever be jokingly called it in the angry, Basil style intonation. Oh God and do you remember that weird film about the girl with 16 personalities? Her mother was a horrid creature. I think that film has scarred me for life. I watched the video when I was far too young!
Esther - not bad, once worked with a lovely one. Unpretentious.
Gerda - reminds of acid reflux and gurning.
Ismay - alright - I think of flowing clothes and amateur dramatics for some reason.
Leonora - ok
Cornelia - like.
Cynthia - will always be Cynthia Payne for me. I've known a couple of hispanic girls with this name and because of their ethnicity it had a whole different vibe about it. I also think of Nixon from SATC. I've got a feeling this name is on the way up.

Damion -McBride? Despite that, alright.
Felix - not adverse to it.
Diggory or Digby - no problem.
Rolf - no, the Harris connotations are too strong, middle aged people will forever be chuckling and saying "Can you see what it is yet?" in an Australian accent and "Where's your didgeridoo, mate?" It will drive you mad.
Ralph's fine though.
Edgar - not bad.
Kurt - nope. Very gung-ho. If you're of German extraction, fine.
Clement - yep.

What's your personal inspiration for these names? You've got some diverse styles there.

cheekster · 21/04/2009 22:25

I like Lilith and Ismay for girls name. But dont like any of the boys names - Diggory is not bad I suppose.

RachieB · 21/04/2009 22:22

Girls

Ismay ( but prefer Esme PN Ez - may)

Boys

erm ... none of them !

LaDiDaDi · 21/04/2009 20:26

Clare-fine, not popular at the moment, have you also consideed Clara?
Ada-I like it but prefer Ida
Lilith-no
Sibyl-ok, prefer Sylvie
Esther-nice, my mother loves it for some reason
Gerda-makes me think of Irn Bru
Ismay-ok, might get confused with the more popular Esme.
Leonora-sounds like Lenor fabric softener
Cornelia-ok, much prefer Cordelia
Cynthia-no

Damian-ok
Felix-nice
Diggory-I quite like this, surprising myself here, also really like Digby
Rolf-no
Edgar-no, prefer Edwin
Kurt-not at all, sound like an action man imo.
Clement-ok but dislike Clem as a nn, could consider using Clay as a nn?

thedolly · 21/04/2009 19:43

Ada/Asda
Leonora/Lenor
Cornelia/cornea
Cats like Felix love Felix
Hickory Diggory dock

Ester and Edgar are lovely - twins?

Good Luck

janeite · 21/04/2009 19:39

Girls - Ismay, Esther or Lilith.
Boys - none of them really do it for me but at an absolute push I'd say Edgar or Diggory.

Nancy66 · 21/04/2009 19:37

Felix is the only name I like. Others are all a bit naff.

ForeverOptimistic · 21/04/2009 19:35

I don't like any of them. They aren't terrible but they aren't very attractive sounding names.

hedgiemum · 21/04/2009 19:33

I like Ismay a lot, also Sibyl, Esther, Clare, Ada all nice. HATE Lilith.

Felix or Edgar for a boy - both cute.

CountessDracula · 21/04/2009 19:24

and i like Esme
Ismay sounds a bit made up
as does Diggory
(higgory diggory dock obv comes to mind instantly)

CountessDracula · 21/04/2009 19:23

I don't much like any of them
I do, however, like Cornelius for a boy for some reason if that helps

marytumble · 21/04/2009 19:19

Yep, Gerda is pronounced Ger-der and Ismay Iz-may.

Hmm Clare is doing well. Is it popular?

BabyBaby123 · 21/04/2009 18:31

i don't like any of them - sorry

MadameCastafiore · 21/04/2009 18:29

What jellybeans said!

spenthen · 21/04/2009 18:27

Is Gerda pronounced "girder"??? I wouldn't like to be called "girder" if it was me.

MatthewBellamysMuse · 21/04/2009 18:27

I hate all the girls' names. Sorry.
Damian, Felix or Kurt for a boy.

spenthen · 21/04/2009 18:26

Leonora is beautiful, lovely, I wish I could use that one. Please don't call her Cynthia!

But your boys' names.........could you maybe use Ralph instead of Rolf????

jellybeans · 21/04/2009 18:13

Clare...bit boring and 70s
Ada...dislike
Lilith...dislike
Sibyl...old granny
Esther...like it
Gerda...awful
Ismay....dislike
Leonora...ok but prefer Leoni/a
Cornelia...dislike
Cynthia...dislike, old gran

Damian...hate it, horror films
Felix...OK
Diggory....awful
Rolf...rolf harris and awful
Edgar....dislike
Kurt...Like Curtis
Clement ...dislike, bit girly too

ChippyMinton · 21/04/2009 18:03

I'd change Ismay to Esme, and Cornelia to Cordelia.

Boys - Clement if pronounced the French way - Cle-mon. And possibly Felix (quite liked it myself, but dire with our surname)

yappybluedog · 21/04/2009 18:02

not keen on any tbh

Is Clare popular now?

FelineFine · 21/04/2009 18:02

Felix = cat (sorry)

Ada = nice but there are going to be a few.

Leonora = nice
Lilth = nice

Kurt = nice but makes me think of books. at self

Damian = nice but makes me think of the devil

Clare is okay.

Sorry, I realise the above looks very critical but everyone likes different names don't they?

basementbear · 21/04/2009 17:59

Same as throckenholt, I like Clare but TBH I don't really like any of the boys names!
