Which is more common - Oliver or Sam?

We are having DS no.2 in about a month's time, and have narrowed our name choices down to Oliver (Ollie) or Samuel (Sam).

I know both are quite common/popular but the same could be said of our other DCs names (Katie and Ben).

I am just a bit worried that Sam is too popular at the moment.

Any views?

I don't really want to think about being shagged by an Oliver as it's my ds's name. And as for being gay ....you might have a point with my ds

Oh and Colin is a sensible name, but not veru sexy. Surely sensible and sexy are pretty mutually exclusive?

oliver more common round these parts. I dread the text rsvp ' oliver would love to come to the party' cos it could be one of many kids (er 6 out of 20 to be exact )

Well I only know one young Oliver and one young Sam, both under 3.

But I also have a brother called Oliver and another called Sam.

So all in all i can't say which is more popular or my favourite. No help

Agree can't stand Ollie. DB is known by a much better nn amongst family but all his friends call him Ollie!

Sorry, but I'd rather be pierced by a Sam than an Oliver anyday.

It's such a gay name.

I love Ollie and Oliver. Ollie is a good little boy's name and Oliver is a sensible grown up name.

Thanks for all your posts. Interesting to get different viewpoints. Got another month til we meet this LO. We usually have the name ready in advance, but we might have to wait til we see him to choose, although I already have a good idea what he looks like as i had a 4d scan a few weeks back (pic on my profile if anyone interested). I think he would suit either name really but thought maybe more an Oliver
