I know of an Amira, which looks nice spelled out, if that's any help

belgo · 04/04/2009 08:39

I know an Amalia. It's a Spanish/ Lat Am name, I think. V pretty.

MrsMerryHenry · 03/04/2009 23:24

It's hideous. Sorry. You did ask for opinions.

usernametaken · 03/04/2009 23:18

A friend has just had an Amalia... pretty name.

Nighbynight · 03/04/2009 23:05

Amarae is very pretty actually, but everyone will say "Anna-Rae?" and she'll have to say, No, A-m-a...

pointydog · 03/04/2009 23:05

amarillo

Nighbynight · 03/04/2009 23:03

how about Amrita?

famous Amrita: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amrita_Sher-Gil

Umlellala · 03/04/2009 22:23

Amarae is the spelling I would choose from the three. Assuming it is pronounced Amma-ray?

The more I read it, the more I like it.

Some people will always judge on names - I have a pretentiously named dd, and a chavvy named ds. C'est la vie.

Leannabanana · 03/04/2009 22:13

Go with Amelie.....that sounds similar and is a real name that sounds very pretty....

Xavielli · 03/04/2009 22:02

I was just going to open this up and type:

Or you could give her a nice name.

But I see it has already been said.

PussinJimmyChoos · 03/04/2009 21:56

Amirah?

duchesse · 03/04/2009 21:55

Could it be Amira?

TheFallenMadonna · 03/04/2009 21:41

How did the school friend spell it? I would go for a a plain-ish middle name. Rose? I love the name Rose.

LetThemEatCake · 03/04/2009 21:35

okay. Guys. Please.

The OP did not ask you for your opinions on the name. She asked a) which spelling and b) any suggestions for a middle name.

I think if someone comes on here, undecided, and asks for opinions, then fine, give them

If someone comes on and says "we have decided..." then please have a bit of sensitivity and refrain from using words like 'chavvy' and 'awful'

solidgoldshaggingbunnies · 03/04/2009 21:08

I suppose if you must you could go for Amerie, which was the name of that horrendous squawking hiccuping bint who sang Just ONe Thing a few years ago...

duchesse · 03/04/2009 21:03

Admiral?

ThePlanningCommittee · 03/04/2009 20:57

Damn straight GossipMonger - what's the betting that Amarae will demand to be called 'Jane' as soon as she's old enough to have her own view?

It's times like this I wish I was a Continental:

"France passed a law in the early 1800s that prohibited all names except those on a preapproved list; the last of these laws was repealed in 1993.

"In Germany, the government still bans invented names and names that don't clearly designate a child's sex.

"Sweden and Denmark forbid names that officials think might subject a child to ridicule. Swedish authorities have rejected such names as Veranda, Ikea and Metallica."

JeMenFous · 03/04/2009 20:57

yuk

Please dont do it

It is chavvy

Not one of us has said this is a nice name or a pretty name but you did ask us what we think of it and we told you!

'Hi. Im Jack. What's your name?'

'Amarae.'

'Hi AnneMarie. Nice to meet you.'

'No - Amarae.'

'Amy-Rae?'

No. Amarae......' and so it will go on......

janeite · 03/04/2009 20:47

Not good methinks. Amira is quite a popular name, generally for Muslim girls I have taught over the years, and is much prettier than the ones you've suggested imho.

BecauseImWoeufit · 03/04/2009 20:46

Sorry - it's awful

ThePlanningCommittee · 03/04/2009 20:44

What - everyone's input saying "FOR GOD'S SAKE, NO WOMAN!"?
