Petal Blossom Rainbow is too much ! But its pretty. I love the name Blossom though, i want to call my daughter blossom, not alot of people like it though

nappyaddict · 13/04/2009 12:33

I'm sorry but Petal is not a name!! Petula would have been better!!

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 08/04/2009 18:37

zzz...shudder a those names....

paolosgirl · 07/04/2009 13:48

Petal???? Why??? I keep hearing "aw'ryy pe'awl" - it don't sound no good.

KAEKAE · 07/04/2009 13:42

its a stupid name...but she won't end up CEO of a company will she? She'll end up in OK mag as a celeb that doesn't do anything.

KristinaM · 07/04/2009 13:14

i agree with hulababy. they shoudl have used another " proper" flower name - there are plenty lovely ones

i guess they will now HAVE to grow up to be slebs and not normal people. you cant be a maths teacher, sales rep or engineers called Petal

ZZZen · 07/04/2009 13:08

actually I'm wondering if name giving shouldn't be a bit more monitored by the state. On the whole I'm allergic to "state interference" but not sure about dc's names.

I have just been reading in a German magazine about an American couple who named their ds Adolf Hitler Campbell. Can you believe it?

Their dd is called Joyce-Lynn Aryan Nation Campbell and I suppose this one has a neo-nazi theme to it to but I don't see it: Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell.

Compared to that Petal Blossom Rainbow sounds kind of nice

Seems social services have taken the dc away from the dp for the moment

Hulababy · 07/04/2009 09:03

Not keen on this at all. Of the three names I think Blossom is the better one and makes a better first name. My little sister went to nursery with a Rainbow and even then, back in early 80s I wasn't keen!

But their other little girls names, although still flower names, are normal names. I like Poppy and Daisy as names, Petal Blossom Rainbow I don't.

What was wrong with real names wth flower lins - Lily, Rose, Willow, Iris etc.

NormaJeanBaker · 07/04/2009 00:25

Belgo - really. Only other place I've come across it is in a Peanuts cartoon. Wish I'd met the fella. DH isn't quite as eccentric as his grandad but not far off.

MrsMattie · 06/04/2009 17:33

I've been away for the weekend so am late on this one but I have to say: YUCK.

What will the next one be called

My money is on Maple Syrup Fluffy Cloud-a-belle

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 06/04/2009 17:33

for those that are clueless about Pumuckl look here

ZZZen · 06/04/2009 17:27

Pumuckl?!

IIRRC in Germany we had to hand in our application to register the birth and get the birth certificate and they then check whether the name is acceptable or not. You cannot have just any name you like. We didn't have a problem because dd's names are all regular established names so I don't know how stringent they are. I didn't encounter any dc in Germany with totally made up sounding names come to think of it

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 06/04/2009 17:17

Germany has rules on names...there was some hoohaa about people wanting to call their child Pumuckl (a german Kids TV character) and parents were very put out that they weren't allowed to do it....

Leannabanana · 06/04/2009 15:54

thanks kitty - that was really interesting......i'm slightly disturbed by how much i now love the name Molli Malou tho....ha ha.

kittywise · 06/04/2009 13:14

leanna, they have very strict rules about what children can be called, to protect them basically from loonies like the olivers and many other celebs.
here is an article if you fancy a gander

belgo · 06/04/2009 12:35

Norma - really?! that's very funny

cheesesarnie · 06/04/2009 12:25

ds1 use to call himself rainbow and wanted ds2 to be rainbow-that or kitten.

i quite like it!

my dad wanted to name one of my sisters badger.hmmmm

NormaJeanBaker · 06/04/2009 12:14

Grandfather in law called his children One, Two and Three (he was an engineer and thought numbers perfectly good for all occasions) but they used their middle names - given by their more socially astute mother.

coochicoo · 06/04/2009 09:59

I'm just not keen on 'themed' naming. I know it's good to have names that 'go' together, but why do they all have to be flowers (or parts of flowers, poor petal!). Like sisters Pearl, Ruby and Emerald, or April, May and June. It's just a bit too much for me.

I also agree that if they had to do it, then there are some nicer (imo) flower/plant names - Iris, Fleur and Willow are my favourites.

Leannabanana · 06/04/2009 09:40

what rules are there in denmark then??

ZZZen · 06/04/2009 09:19

oh didn't know that. Well I suppose if you hear it a lot, it starts to sound less odd. Jsut makes me think of the Stranglers (how old am I?!) : "walking on the beaches, looking at the peaches"

allthoseeggsaremine · 05/04/2009 19:44

We have loads and loads of girls called peaches in a gypsy settlement a few miles from our local town!! They go to the local schools for a little while, so that name is normal to us!!

Still can't get over the fact that the Olivers stole my cats names they are most upset about it

kittywise · 05/04/2009 18:06

shit

So he didn't get a boy then?

There should honestly be rules like what they have in Denmark.

ZZZen · 05/04/2009 17:44

Peaches, Fifi and Pixie don't make me bat an eyelid, they send my whole face into contortions.

Fifi soundsl ike a French poodle and Peaches sounds very kinky to me.

lunamoon2 · 05/04/2009 12:56

Btw it was good to see a picture of all 3 with Jools still looking rather large ( and I mean that in the nicest possible way!)
Instead of looking as though she had never eaten a decent meal in her entire life, plastered in makeup and wearing size 0 skin tight jeans, like most "celebrity" women seem to do 10 minutes after giving birth

Good on you I thought
