OK, Now we're sure we're having a girl, we have two names:

  1. Millie
* Emily * Millicent
  1. Martha

It's just for fun, really, because we won't decide until she's born, but which one would you go for? (or suggest another!!!!)

Middle names:
Grace / Kate / Alice (only one, obviously!)

Thanks, HM

my bf dd (6) is called emily - but we all call her milly

troutpout · 02/04/2009 09:46

Marthasmama...lol ..when i was pg with ds(11) i liked the name Grace then someone said 'but what if she isn't 'graceful'? and then someone else said it just reminds me of 'disgrace'

blardy bitches

When i got pg again i made sure i didn't ask peoples opinion on Martha...if she was a girl then that was to be her name.

Marthasmama · 02/04/2009 09:09

Um, well I obviously love the name Martha. Is was reading this and thinking, OI Custardo, . However I do see what she means. It's not a girly name so if my dd ends up ugly (which I doubt as she is the image of her mother ), it would emphasise her biffer-ness! I think it is also to do with timing. If I had been named Martha I would probably have been ribbed, likewise if I had been called Daisy. But now a child is more likely to be teased if they called Linda or similar. There have been loads of threads about the idea recently.

troutpout · 02/04/2009 08:57

Millicent is really nice
As is Kate
I like Jane, Eliza and Verity

FAQinglovely · 02/04/2009 00:27

my lovely lovely SIL (well one of them - I have 3 thanks to DH and they're all lovely - but she's particularly lovely) is a Millicent - so I'm probably biased with my liking of it.

pingviner · 02/04/2009 00:25

Millicent! Its a wonderful name, there should be more Millicents!
Somewhere the dark hell of my memory has just dredged up:

The bottle of perfume that Willy sent,
Was Highly Displeasing to Millicent,
Her thanks were so cold,
They quarrelled Im told,
Through that silly scent Willy sent Millicent

I am however unclear what this adds to the argument

FAQinglovely · 01/04/2009 23:32

Millie/Martha/Emily all really popular now (well they are round here ) so I'd go for Millicent Grace/Kate

Concordia · 01/04/2009 23:30

Emily Kate is my vote.

dcoppack · 01/04/2009 21:50

Loads of Millies around so a no, unfortunatly, Amelia is now on that vein too (even though my own child is called that). Martha sounds like she shouls be wearing old lady tights. Like Emily Grace though x

Tidey · 01/04/2009 21:49

Millie, short for Emilia, then you don't have to choose between Emily and Amelia. If you see what I mean.

And Grace is a lovely middle name, I would have used it for my DD but DP hated it

Tarasgang · 01/04/2009 21:43

I have a Katie, Tilly and and Emily so I think I would go for Millie Kate

troutpout · 01/04/2009 21:34

noooo not martha
you don't want to be doing that

QueenFee · 01/04/2009 21:15

haven't read the whole thread but it's Millie Grace for me

gibbberish · 01/04/2009 21:13

Millie I think... but like Pointy would just use Emily (my fave of the lot)

pointydog · 01/04/2009 21:11

I'd probably go for Millie. But Amelia/Millie. If I had an Emily I'd just call her Emily

Oh no, not Martha. Its my name and I have been teased about it from childhood all the way through to adulthood. I was named after my granny, ok name for granny but not for a young child

SIANYWARNY · 01/04/2009 20:22

Martha Kate.......I like it a lot x

Leannabanana · 01/04/2009 20:11

Martha Kate

Cosette · 01/04/2009 18:51

I have an Emily Grace - she's almost 12 now, and has never had the EG comment, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Millie, Emily, and Amelia are all quite common popular around our schools so I would go for Martha

mumnosbest · 01/04/2009 18:43

I love Alice but don't think it goes with Millie which would be my other favourite

fruitshootsnweaveseasterbasket · 01/04/2009 18:40

I have an Emily too. Emily's are great

popsypie · 01/04/2009 18:38

I have a beautiful Emily. It is musical and suits her well. It is popular, but as long as you have your little Emily then who cares. The little girl who owns the shop on Bagpuss is called Emily - my little one loves watching it!! Emily Grace gets my vote. good luck choosing. PS: My little one is Emily Rebecca x
