Beatrice or Beatrix?

I quite like both these names for a girl....but which is better? And what can they be shortened to...I am not keen on Trixy as a nn.

Or any other sugestions of similar names? Also like Clementine, Florence, Evelyn, Esme.

So hard this name business!

Beatrice. I know a Beatrice who is Bea or BB. She's adorable.

I've got a Beatrice known as Bea - it's working out fine as a name so far

beatrice nn Bea

bergentulip · 12/03/2009 19:46

I like Beatrix - and it's very continental and regal..... if I had had a girl I would have called her Beatrix - after Queen Beatrix in The Netherlands.

Far more unusual than all the Beatrices around.

And plus, Queen Beatrix is infinitely more dignified than princess beatrice in the UK...

TheFallenMadonna · 12/03/2009 19:39

Beatrice

Cies · 12/03/2009 19:39

I agree that Beatrice is softer. Bea is a nice nn.

slowreadingprogress · 12/03/2009 19:38

I think Beatrice is just that bit prettier. Bea is a lovely shortening.

beatrix a bit 'harsh'
