I love Verity.
The pronounciation of Honor puts me off it (ON-ER) as in on-her?

RachieB · 13/03/2009 16:23

My fave is Hope

Patience

TiggyR · 13/03/2009 10:20

Oh god, not Comfort - sound like a sanitary towel. I love Honor, Hope and Joy, and Felicity is very pretty and under-used.

There was an African woman in the paper at the weekend called Priviledge and yes, it was spelt with a 'd' !!!

Lawks · 13/03/2009 04:29

Tenacity
Temperence (like the Dr in Bones)
Happiness (I knew a girl called Happiness. We called her Happy)

nereidesinthemist · 13/03/2009 04:12

Comfort?
Felicity?
Grace?
Prudence?
Melody? - I really like this
Harmony?

I have a Verity Faith people always look puzzled until I explain it's from latin, think veritas serum from HP... then they say oh yes, of course!

I know several Graces, but really like Patience.

oopsagain · 12/03/2009 23:15

is ruth a virtue?

screamingabdab · 12/03/2009 23:08

Welcome persephonesnape!!

screamingabdab · 12/03/2009 23:07

My midwife for DS2 was called Mercy - she was a really beautiful woman, and i have loved the name ever since.

I like Grace too

Hulababy · 12/03/2009 20:37

Oh and there is a Prudence at school too.

rempy · 12/03/2009 20:37

Cadence is a musical term! Not exactly a virtue. Or a name.....

Babbity · 12/03/2009 20:36

My sis is Felicity too and she also hates it. She also doesn't suit her name as she's a grumpy high maintenance sort of a gal.

Hulababy · 12/03/2009 20:35

DD's friends are called Liberty and Grace.

PersephoneSnape · 12/03/2009 20:34

cordelia - from cordially (yours)

my first thread cross-over.

Plonker · 12/03/2009 19:55

I love Hope. I wanted to call dd3 Hope but dh wouldn't let me

It is her middle name instead and I secretly yearn that she chooses to go by her middle name when she's older

Leannabanana · 12/03/2009 19:00

verity is prettu popular on this thread...and a very pretty name too...we already have one in the family tho so thats out.....i really like honor rose..that sounds gorgeous....

LuLuBai · 12/03/2009 18:45

But hedgiemum it could be embarrasing when your toddler is sprawled across the supermarket floor in full-on tantrum mode and you have to say "Patience, get up. You can't eat the grapes until we get home."

RhinestoneCowgirl · 12/03/2009 18:43

My 11 wk old is a Verity, so naturally I like that one... I liked Felicity too.

hedgiemum · 12/03/2009 18:39

Felicity and Verity my favourite. Does my dd's name kind of count - Celeste (heavenly)?!

Don't worry about a child not matching up to the virtue they're called as I think words are very powerful and constantly hearing the word "truth" applied to yourself (in the case of Verity) means you're not going to grow up a terrible liar... Pregnancy brain is stopping em explaining what I mean well....

SamsMama · 12/03/2009 16:44

I really like Serenity...I knew a little girl named that, she was called "Ren" and "Rennie" for short. Any fans of the American sci-fi show "Firefly" might like it too... Honor is also a pretty name IMO, as well as the old standbys Hope, Faith and Grace. Joy is pretty too, and such a nice sentiment IMO.

EdwardBear · 12/03/2009 16:36

I know a little girl called Cadence, which sounds lovely.
No idea what it means but it sounds like a virtue type name!
Also love Honor and Clemency
