So I am just checking we are not totally mad, because we love it (which I know is all that matters really)

Felicity Georgina Rose

Thoughts?

Lovely name, and not at all odd or dubious in any way so I don't know what their problem is.

When DP and I told my mum our prospective name for a girl, she spluttered like a fish and repeated it at the top of her voice in abject horror (kind of like when Lady Bracknell says "A HAAAANBAAAAAG????!!!") It is unusual though.

(unfortunately I'm not revealing the name because we had a boy and I'm still keeping it to myself just in case)

But anyway all I thought was "Cool, she hates it. I like it even more"

nappyaddict · 13/03/2009 13:44

I love Felicity and Georgina. Not so keen on Rose as flower names seem to be very popular atm.

Wigglesworth · 13/03/2009 13:30

How many times, never discuss potential DC names with anyone, EVER!

missorinoco · 13/03/2009 13:20

i like them.

think of it this way, they could've swallowed their dentures with some of the choices above. (bluetit comes to mind!)

your baby, your name choice. end of.

cece · 13/03/2009 13:08

A lovely choice of names but NEVER discuss baby names with others. Especially PIL until after the baby has been named... and it is too late for them to say anything!

BonsoirAnna · 13/03/2009 13:05

Georgina is much prettier than Felicity...

bratnav · 13/03/2009 13:04

Will do, we can't afford Oxfordshire

mrsgboring · 13/03/2009 10:54

bratnav, okay, you're allowed. Provided you stay out of Oxfordshire

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 13/03/2009 09:10

they are lovely names, I second, third and fourth the motions not to tell anyone else the baby names before birth. We told my father we were considering Emma for a girl and he the most bizarre reaction along the lines of you can't call her Emma, that's a horrible name etc. Emma ffs!

Karamazov · 13/03/2009 09:00

I think Felicity is a marmite name - some people love it and others hate it. FWIW, I loved it and it was one of three contenders for DD1, but like you we had lots of people (particularly family) who hated it. I loved it!

Simplysally · 13/03/2009 08:48

Not read whole thread - but they're lovely names.

floaty · 13/03/2009 08:44

My dh has an aunt called Felicity who is known as Flick,I think its a gorgeous name ,my IL didn't much care for ds1 name but hes 15 now and I'm sure they've forgotton because he just is his name IYSWIM.I hate my nephews name but I would never sya so and i adore him so it doesn't really matter

2Helenback · 13/03/2009 08:39

PMSL at Myra and Adolf!

We told no-one last time, and this time we have been far more open, and when people have pulledc a face and made comments it has put us off. It's a vulnerable time and you feel people will react to your child the same as the name in abstract, but they won't.

Have you asked the Ils what they like? You could go in for a bit of revenge by reacting vvery negatively.

(Love Felicity btw, vetoed by Dh for reasons II won't explain as don't want to colour your perception of it)

oliviasmama · 12/03/2009 21:47

Pretty lovely i'd say. Forget what the IL's think

smellen · 12/03/2009 21:09

Lovely names. Who cares what the ILs think - by the time they cuddle Felicity, they will think it's the coolest name in the world and that she is the cutest baby ever.

bratnav · 12/03/2009 21:08

MrsBoring - we are in Bristol, does that help?

Ineedsomesleep · 12/03/2009 20:51

Love it too. Agree with only discussing baby names with us and occasionally the father.

Tell everyone its Myra for a girl and Adolf for a boy. That way they'll just be relieved when you have your baby and haven't given it one of those names

bratnav · 12/03/2009 20:24

HeyMa - that is our boys name, spooky

Bratnav that is a gorgeous name for a little girl and she'll love you for it forever.....don't worry bout the ILs,when i told my MIL (very nice i love her) our DS1s name she said "OMG that's AWFUL when will you change it?" of course i didn't change it and she now agrees its a great name and he's still the only 1 she knows

BTW he's Reuben and now 17

take the MN advise and only use the contructive feedback here

duchesse · 12/03/2009 10:36

btw, mine's 13 an loves her name, and we have never had a single negative comment about it from anyone. Your ILs must be barking.

duchesse · 12/03/2009 10:33

ditto, mrsboring!

mrsgboring · 12/03/2009 10:24

You can't have Felicity. It's my girl name. (Where do you live?)

edam · 12/03/2009 10:24

Very nice names, ignore ILs. (Did they suggest any alternatives? Do they like Chuck or Diesel or Babydarlingangelpie?)

MrsJoeMcIntyre · 12/03/2009 10:20

I wanted to call dd Mia, but she said she'd heard someone shouting it in a supermarket, and even did an impression for me, "Miaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Miaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa." Put me right off. I would never discuss baby names with her again. Ever.

Indiechick · 12/03/2009 10:15

They're lovely names, v. pretty. I suggested Abigail when I was pregnant and my mother helpfully told me it was a slut's name. Thanks mom! Should never have told her, I still really like it.
