Would like some opinions on

Vaughan/Vaughn
Orson
Verne
Edward
Samuel
Gregory
Monty
Mungo
Edgar
Edmund

None of these are a definite for the short list (well DH thnks one is...) so give me the worst...

my mother hated all our choices but ultimately she had her chance and I didn't think much of her choices

Sidney is FAB and am delighted you like one of my suggestions !!

you're just right not to discuss names with anyone other than DH, and us of course!

Andrew is ok - no getting away from Andy though, what about the nn Drew

Edgar
Jasper
Gilbert

cece · 08/03/2009 21:37

DH prefers Marcus to Mark Not sure I like it enough to use it...

As for Sidney, that is a very sore subject. We were all set to cal DS Sidney till MIL found out and put DH off of it about 2 months before I had him {sad] I still think he looks like a Sid..

This time I have not discussed baby names with her, despite her trying several times to bring up the subject!

OK I do have another one to add to my list

Andrew

Really like it but would hate it to be shortened to Andy. It will be though won't it?

ps, Saul instead of Paul
Marcus instead of Mark.

MsBeauregarde · 08/03/2009 21:19

Vaughan/Vaughn -ok, sounds a bit nasalish
Orson - don't hate it.
Verne - Sounds weak. Again, nasalish.
Edward - Lovely. Popular but lovely. I also like Teddy.
Samuel - Lovely. In the same style I like Daniel. I prefer Daniel.
Gregory - Lovely. Greg is unusual but would fit in with the Bens and Maxes perfectly. Gregory is lovely too, classic but quirky and less pretentious than Barnaby! In that style I like Leo, Dominic, Thaddeus 'posh catholic names'
Monty - I like it, but not as a nn for Montague. Unless Montague is a family name.
Mungo - Ok. I like Bruno, Hugo and Roscoe more though. Actually, I'm lying, I'm trying to be in with the mungo-lovers. I don't like that one.
Edgar - Ok but very dainty. Edward is stronger.
Edmund - Ok, I like this one, but again, it's like a daintier version of Edward. Redmond is cool though.

I also like Richie short for Richard and Frederick.

From your list my favourite is definitely Gregory. It is strong, solid and classic but I only know a couple.

cece what about Sidney?!? loving the old man chic of it!

cece · 08/03/2009 12:42

wheelybug five days! Wow. I have a similar pronounciation problem with Thea. Not too good with my th sound... so that is putting me off a bit.

Hi cece - I agree boys names are soooo difficult. I have 5 days to go till due date and we don't have any names agreed really - i think we probably have a girl's name but I'm dithering still. With boys name DH said yesterday he didn't like any boys' names so I could choose ...... until I started coming up with my suggestions !

I think I like Gregory/Greg. I love your girls names too - particularly Anna, I have one . Also love Esther but I have a bit of a lisp and can't say it properly so have disgarded it sadly!

cyteen · 08/03/2009 12:20

i salute your optimism.

cece · 08/03/2009 12:15

cyteen - funnily enough those are the two names that DH hasn't agreed to yet

i love your girls' names cece, especially Verity and Sadie

DS has 3 names, although one of those is DP's surname.

seeker · 08/03/2009 05:51

Mine have 3 names, but only because there were ghastly family names that I wanted to use and I thought the best place for them was as a 3rd. It also means that ds's initials are PJG - which will be brilliant if he ever plays cricket for England!

nooka · 08/03/2009 05:11

I have three names and it is a nuisance when people insist that you can only have one initial on forms. What about Edwin if you want an Ed? I like Edmund too, we have all three (a Ned too) in the family.

sweetkitty · 08/03/2009 04:46

I wish I had given my lot more names

DD1 and 2 have 2 and DD3 has 3

DP and I were arguing over lunch about DD4's name

dizzydixies · 07/03/2009 23:17

cece mine aren't going to thank me for the mouthful we've given them either

I grew up hating my name so was determined to let them all have names that gave them choices

lockets - you can always add more by deed poll!!!
