ok, 2 of my friends in North America have recently called their children this.

One is a boy.

One is a girl.

What do y'all think of it?

I remember a few years ago when a baby was born on a Virgin flight - named Virginia and given free flights for her lifetime!!

I think place names are great.

I have a boy called Hawaii (pronounced Howey) and a girl called Berlynne (pronounced like the city, but we softened the spelling a bit).

If they chose it because of the Suite Life of Zack and Cody then they are very sad indeed as it is a truly awful programme (my dd likes it) and the London character is particularly obnoxious (ditzy, stupid and rather crass).

I really dislike places as names, whether they are English, American or really from anywhere. With an exception for places named after people I suppose Because slebs seem to like it I guess it is quite wannabe.

I once met a child called America. Awful

Ahem. I claimed the name Auchtermuchty first. It was on a thread like this several months ago that I said that the second child I will never have would be called Dagenham Auchtermuchty.

So there.

ooooh noooo - not at all, really do not like it.

Our neice is called Nevada, not named this because she was conceieved there, just beacuse her parents thought it sounded cool back then (poor thing)

We named our dd now 5 Georgia (well in all honesty Georgia-Mae) and were asked why we named her after an American 'place', until that day i never realised we had.

Eeek, what is with the anti-American sentiment in this thread? I have heard of plenty of British children called "Brooklyn." I can't say that the British have an upperhand on classy names, TBH. Sorry, just kinda cranky. I am not American but the amount of anti-Americanism around at the moment is bordering on racism.

My es likes watching a terrible Disney programme, I think it is called Zak and Drake- but that might be a different equally horrid programme , anywya, there is a very stupid and spoiled character in that programme called London/Landon...

I knew an American girl who called her baby Camden (and we were all LIVING in Camden). Just...bad. They needed to move back to the US fast.
