I love this name - DH vetoed it for DS.....lots of raised eyebrows when I mentioned it at the time too! Anyway, heard someone calling a little Gabriel today and I have name .

would def like to use this if we ever have another ds.....and if i could convince DH!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

laumiere, have a raphael next! that's one of my fave names, but feel like I can't use it now I have a Gabriel.

ours used to get called Baybriel by a friend's dd lol
and Wailbriel by us because he never stopped crying

feelingbetter · 27/02/2009 20:40

laumiere our Gabe has a million variations too - Gabri-bumble, Gabri-chub, Gabsickle and of course, Gabri-woo!
Never shortened to gay, by anyone.
If it helps - we had lots of raised eyebrows when he was first named (by me!) and now EVERYONE loves it!

janeite · 27/02/2009 20:36

Love it!

Congratulations Laumiere.

theroseofwait · 27/02/2009 20:35

I also think it's beautiful. 'Twas going to be DS's name until a fortnight before he was born but then I was sent for a scan to see if he was breech. He wasn't but the midwife said 'that is a big lad you've got there. . .' I duly came home and said to dh that if he was going to spend half his life on a rugby field perhaps he'd need a slightly more 'substantial' name so he became George. Am hoping if we have a DS2 he's not built quite so much like a prop forward so we can use it. . .

laumiere · 27/02/2009 20:34

Our 6 day old son is a Gabriel, but he's known as Gabri-woo by DS1. DS1 is a Michael so I guess we are working on a theme!

MommyHasaHeadache · 27/02/2009 20:18

Great name!

Thunderduck · 27/02/2009 20:10

It's beautiful.

paolosgirl · 27/02/2009 20:05

I was bullied by a horrible Gabrielle - so you have my sympathies noonki!

noonki · 27/02/2009 20:02

I'm not a fan but mainly as I was bullied by a horrible one and can't see past it!

Wolfcub · 27/02/2009 20:02

love it

keepingitRia · 27/02/2009 20:00

Yes!

I agree with thisisyesterday

permatired · 27/02/2009 20:00

I think it's gorgeous - again never heard the Gabriel I know shortened to Gay though sometimes Gabe.

ruty · 27/02/2009 19:59

[sigh] Boy. Breastfeeding at 'puter.

ruty · 27/02/2009 19:59

Doh! A bot i mean..

ruty · 27/02/2009 19:59

Love it. If dd had been a girl that would have been her name.

thisisyesterday · 27/02/2009 19:57

no-one shortens our Gabriel to Gay.

he sometimes gets Gabe. but never Gay.

I find that if you use the full name then everyone else does too. or a shortening of your choice.

paolosgirl · 27/02/2009 19:55

LOL JRocks

JRocks · 27/02/2009 19:54

I love it, but it got vetoed here too. Although to be honest, with the surname and the shortening DS would have been something sounding like Gay Pareee (Paris) Not so good!

Wolfblass · 27/02/2009 19:52

I vetoed it when pg with dd, as dp wanted it and i just couldnt see it.

Now we are having a name dilemma for ds who is due in 2 weeks, i now like it and he doesn;t want it!

All of my family think it is awful -

it's my DS1's middle name. To be honest DH campaigned for it to be his first name but I had concerns over the shortened version in the playground.

We love the name!

feelingbetter · 27/02/2009 19:51

Wonderful!

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 27/02/2009 19:51

I like it.

Pollyanna · 27/02/2009 19:50

my dh vetoed it for ds2, but I really like it.

bodiddly · 27/02/2009 19:49

Love it, love it, love it ... but my dp vetoed it too!
