I think it's so sweet but would it suit an adult? Is it horrendous and am I delusional??

upper class name for the faux cute.

The Flumps, as someone has already said.

Gorionine · 25/02/2009 11:05

"Space pirate", sorry

Gorionine · 25/02/2009 11:04

I do not know why but it reminds me of 2Spavce Pirat" on cbeebies

LadyThompson · 25/02/2009 11:01

Posy is extremely nice. If you like it, do go for it. And if she does turn out to be a kick-ass lawyer, it will make her all the more fascinating. I don't hold with this "you can't call her x or she will never be taken seriously" hogwash. Furthermore, if she (for instance) a barrister she will only ever be known by her surname anyway.

ForeverOptimistic · 24/02/2009 14:33

Very pretty for a little girl but not sophisticated enough for a grown woman. What about Polly?

SoupDragon · 24/02/2009 14:32

Weak and feeble is what it says to me.

Horrendous on an adult.

Another one who would think Ballet Shoes
I like it, but would go the Josephine/Rosemary shortened to Posy route

And agree with scummymummy that Petrova is cool

Purplemoon · 24/02/2009 14:27

Flumps here too, sorry. (Even though I loved Ballet Shoes and read it when I was a child!)

ScummyMummy · 24/02/2009 14:26

Makes me think of Gum's note, delivered with Posy because he was too scared to face Nana:

"...Her name is Posy. Unfortunate but true."

(or something v similar.)

Petrova is a much better name!

Fimbo · 24/02/2009 14:24

A bunch of flowers

pooter · 24/02/2009 14:22

whoops, mint choc - i didnt read yours first! i love the flumps and grampa's flumpet.

pooter · 24/02/2009 14:21

ooh you must have three and call them posy, pootle and perkin. thats my plan (hi madame!)

MadameCastafiore · 24/02/2009 14:20

Someone who poses a lot?

VeryAnnieMary · 24/02/2009 14:18

Think Posy is officially short for Josephine.

I quite like Posy - no drippier than Poppy or similar names imho.

nooka · 24/02/2009 06:01

I don't think of it as a name at all I'm afraid, but a description of a bunch of flowers. I'm not all that keen on it even as a nickname for a little girl. It just seems a bit twee to me. Sorry!

ninedragons · 24/02/2009 05:04

A five-year-old who cries when she gets splashed by naughty boys playing in a puddle.

Sorry.

MoominMymbleandMy · 24/02/2009 03:46

Ballet Shoes. Wasn't the nanny quite sniffy about it?

MinkyBorage · 23/02/2009 23:11

DDs middle name is Posie

francagoestohollywood · 23/02/2009 23:10

I love Posy Simmonds!!

shonaspurtle · 23/02/2009 23:08

Posy Simmonds. A really good illustrator. Her name is actually Rosemary.

janeite · 23/02/2009 23:02

LOVE The Flumps too! I have mentioned on here before that when dd2 was about three she was convinced she was a Flump!

Lulubee · 23/02/2009 23:02

What about names that could be shortened to Posy? Any ideas? I can only think of Rosie and that's not very kick-ass lawyer either...
