Hi all, not pregnant yet, trying for a baby now though. Very excited, and DP and I have already decided on a boys name. We'd like to have a girls name planned out too. A bit sad, but each to their own eh?

We like the following:

Isla Jules [G surname]
Zia Jules [G surname]
Brooke Jules [G surname]
Blair Jules [G surname]

What do you think? Or do you have an alternative we might like in the same jist as those names?

pmsl MrsMattie. Well, if it's true that people grow into their names, and you were to call a DD Xenia, then watch out!

SalmonFromTheLiffey · 20/02/2009 20:04

ha ha! if that happened it'd be all your fault mrsMattie!!!

MrsMattie · 20/02/2009 19:21

I actually really like the name Xenia but the MN connotations are so strong. Imagine if you called your DD Xenia and she was a shy, sweet little thing who just wanted to stay at home and bake bread for her brood of babies?

SalmonFromTheLiffey · 20/02/2009 18:37

What about Xenia?!

That'd root out other Mumsnetters amongst your circle of acquaintance quickly enough!

MrsMattie · 20/02/2009 17:55

The Xia I know is Zee-a

MumOfBaby · 20/02/2009 17:35

Is Xia said Z-eye-a, Z-ee-a or Zsj-ee-a?

The last one being me trying to write how the French would say a J j-ee-a.

I'm taken with Xia/Zia, Faith and Hope at the moment.

I like Zia. I know a Xia (Chinese girl - beautiful).

Faith is adorable. Such a pretty name.

Brooke, Blair - yuck!

Isla - meh.

Hailsk · 20/02/2009 16:37

I love Isla, it's so pretty

SalmonFromTheLiffey · 20/02/2009 16:16

Faith Juliet is lovely. Please pick that.

Marnie Mercedes Andrea Darcey.... blimey. Her parents should have picked Jane. Which I like btw!

FatController · 20/02/2009 00:09

Of all the names you suggest, I only really like Isla and Juliette. Isla is quite popular here (London) at the mo.

Kaidi-Lei is just dreadful IMHO!

If you like Isla, how about:
Iona
Elsa
Lana
Lara
Anya
?????????

Timeisablindguide · 20/02/2009 00:04

Isla is the only one of original list that's acceptable to me! Marnie is sweet but it all rides on what surnames is really in terms of rhyming etc

I do agree that it's easier to stick to the simpler spellings of names - or your child is forever going to be spelling our his/her name to people.

lunamoon2 · 19/02/2009 23:56

Wow thumbwitch that's interseting!
Think Marnie and Darcey are both lovely by the way.

thumbwitch · 19/02/2009 22:44

salmon - you thought that was bad? This is her original name: Darcey Andrea Bussell CBE (born Marnie Mercedes Darcey Pembleton Crittle) (from Wikipedia
So in one way you are right, she chose Darcey as her first name, but I'm sorry, her parents were clearly on something when they picked out her whole name!!

jollydiane · 19/02/2009 22:27

Could you use your mum's middle name (if she has one) instead? Julia is ok, but I only really like Isla. Have you considered Grace or is that to normal?

willowthewispa · 19/02/2009 22:16

Faith Juliet is really nice imo.

nappyaddict · 19/02/2009 22:15

I like Darcy, Isla, Brooke, Blair, Faith and Hope. I prefer Julia to Julie.

dinkymum · 19/02/2009 21:39

Isla or Brooke

MumOfBaby · 19/02/2009 20:44

We are quite taken with Faith Juliet or Faith Julie at the moment.

Urgh I teach teenagers in white trackies with hoop earings and their name on their necklace. I cannot bring up a chav lol.

OP posts:
seeker · 19/02/2009 20:37

Well OK, maybe Jane's a bit extreme but please not misspelled or made up Gaelic names that nobody will be able to pronounce, or names which will condemn her to a life of white shell suits and ear hoops like curtain rings!

How about Isla Juliet? Or Faith Juliet? Or Julia Faith? Or

MumOfBaby · 19/02/2009 20:16

mrsjuan- maybe it's a northern thing.

Seeker- totally don't like traditional names.

We do have Gaelic roots on the upside (more DP than me- his grandad goes on about it) which is how we got started on that one.

OP posts:
seeker · 19/02/2009 20:12

Oh for goodness sake, call her Jane!

bigfatbump2009 · 19/02/2009 20:11

Isla is pretty, Juliet and Faith are nice. Really dislike Brook and Blair. Kaidi Lei is ridiculous!!

Flumpybumpy · 19/02/2009 20:09

I like Isla.

mrsjuan · 19/02/2009 20:05

I quite like Brooke and am trying to work out how it rhymes with f*ck! Please someone enlighten me! I've said both words with my essex accent, my posh rp accent, my husbands stokey accent and can't get them to rhyme!

VanillaPumpkin · 19/02/2009 18:48

Annie Jules??

I don't like the idea of Gaelic names unless you have Gaelic roots, and it is a complete PITA having to spell your name ALL the time
