middle names to go with Miranda

Any suggestions? We liked Miranda Alice, but thought it would be too many 'a' sounds. Also Miranda Kate, but dd2 has Catherine as a middle name which Kate is the shortening for, so that's out.

Also ideas for boys names welcome too. We like very classic, traditional names. We like Alexander and Sebastian at the mo.

Thanks.

Lovely piglet!

pigletpants · 19/02/2009 19:44

I think we might go for Miranda Faith. I love Sebastian Peter for a boy.

I like Miranda - although I'd probably shorten it to Mimi for day-to-day.

Miranda Joy

could then also be MJ which I also like!

'nouveau pauvre'? Ha ha - I haven't heard that before Liffey but I like it, may have to borrow it.

(I actually think Perry short for Peregrine is rather cute - perhaps it is a good thing DH vetoed it from the outset).

SalmonFromTheLiffey · 19/02/2009 16:21

Yikes. I am nouveau pauvre, so although I'm drawn to these Hugo/Julius type names, I've had to rein my taste in names right back in.

I had a Crispin and a Neville in my class at school. I remember a French student teacher saying "quelle sort of a name eeeez Crispin?" with her little nose wrinkled. Tres amusant.

Here in south dublin now, you have classic names like Edward, Patrick, Juliet and Beatrice. Also, American names like Casey and Shelby. And Irish names like Clodagh and Oisin. The only thing that doesn't fly here is urban chic, Dulcie, Edith, Arthur, Stanley. Those names would be a really refreshing change here!

MaplePecanPlait · 19/02/2009 15:11

All stems from a terrible experience at a very very posh mother and toddler group that I found myself in where we had to see Happy Birthday to Peregrin (or Perry for short - which is worse?).

I mean, God help that child if he has to go to the local comp with a name like that - he would have to learn how to fight his corner I suppose!

Really think that all these aspirational names these days are a bit of a burden for the poor DCs. What about simple names rather than ones to outdo the others at the nursery. You must choose something that is timeless, will age well with the child and not be embarrassing even potentially embarrasing for the DC.

Nuff said.....

BTW Blythe is lovely and so is Dorothy for middle names.

SalmonFromTheLiffey · 19/02/2009 09:35

Maple, I suppose you're right. I ruled out Hugo for the same reason. [sigh]

janeite · 18/02/2009 22:41

Oh yes - Miranda Blythe sounds like somebody out of one of those lovely old novels that you want to read again and again.

Miranda Pearl is cute too.

RiaParkinson · 18/02/2009 22:38

Miranda Blythe is dreamy

Timeisablindguide · 18/02/2009 22:37

lol at all the school fees comments!
I like Miranda Elise actually, as suggested by Eve4Walle.
Make sure you let us know what you finally decide on Piglet!

MaplePecanPlait · 18/02/2009 21:52

Thank the Lord Piglet - really had an "is it just me or has everyone gone mad" moment back there.

Iris is lovely and very very pretty and most importantly not too aspirational IYKWIM. goes very well with Miranda and nicely unusual without being poncy!

BakewellTarts · 18/02/2009 21:45

Love Miranda (its my Dsis's name). Miranda May is great.

Also really love Peter...try Peter John.

tassisssss · 18/02/2009 21:40

I like Miranda Joy and Miranda Grace and maybe Miranda Louise.

But if you like Miranda Alice, you should go for it, Alice is a fab middle name.

pigletpants · 18/02/2009 21:37

Debatable whether we can stretch to school fees for three, so Julius definitely out

Love Iris as a first name too.

angrypixie · 18/02/2009 21:35

Oh and Miranda Iris

RiaParkinson · 18/02/2009 21:33

as a Miranda of 41 years no one has EVER called me veranda! Just to clarify!

angrypixie · 18/02/2009 21:32

We would have used Miranda for dc2 I love it;
She would have been Miranda Grace but we also considered

Miranda Scarlet
Miranda Chloe
Miranda Lucy
Miranda Faith
Miranda Dawn
Miranda Belle

PigeonPair · 18/02/2009 21:20

Miranda Rose sounds gorgeous

MaplePecanPlait · 18/02/2009 21:18

Julius? Can you afford the school fees?
If yes, all well and good!

SalmonFromTheLiffey · 18/02/2009 20:24

What could possibly be wrong with Julius?!

I didn't have the nerve myself! But I'd be jealous of anybody who called their son Julius!

Juliet and Clara are lovely. I think there has been a litter of Poppys lately. I like it, but it's a name du jour.

LuLuBai · 18/02/2009 19:47

Cute, but I am going to have the Rod Stewart song on my brain now.

MadMazza · 18/02/2009 19:46

I know of a Maggie-May which is quite cute!

Eve4Walle · 18/02/2009 19:46

Miranda Elise?

thumbwitch · 18/02/2009 19:39

Miranda Leigh

LuLuBai · 18/02/2009 19:24

I'm in a very 'Ines' mood today. Miranda Ines?

Or Miranda Iris?
