Bruno... opinions please!?

Hi,
we are mulling over our ideas for DS name (due in May). we just thought of Bruno and are both loving it but wanted to 'air' it befor asking opinions of friends and family!
our DDis Amelie and our surname is Lake.

Don't worry about the so-called dog connection.

I have a theory that people use names they love but aren't quite brave enough to use for their children yet

Not because the names are ludicrous but because they haven't quite come back into fashion yet.

Some of my favourite names come into this category, Bruno, Bruce, Polly, Sadie, Maggie..

There are lots of dogs and people called Molly and Max too.

There is obviously overlap between dogs names and humans names. The ONLY names NOT considered for dogs are names that are so serious and stuffy and 'dull' eg Paul or John or Ruth (actually, I don't mind those names, but you see my point)

Nobody calls their dogs Ruth and Paul because they're not quirky enough.

sorry SLIGHT mental image of old curly perm Bruno from fame, but if i knew your ds i would soon have a mental image of him instead

Louis is great but there do seem to be more and more of them. And although I like alliteration usually I can't decide whether Louis Lake is cool and memorable or a bit much.

Bruno is much nicer, more masculine sounding (and more unique) than Hugh, Ed and Louis imo!

We do like Hughie too, Eddie and Louis, so some deciding to be done yet!! Bit sad about the dog conotations though!
Changer 22 is winding us up!? maybe a celebrity....?

Nigella also has a daughter called Cosima.

She got their first with some of the best names .

Oh I love it, but my sons all seem to be blonde so it doesn't really work! Nigella has a son called Bruno...

I can't decide. I don't think I would use it although I love most names ending in 'o'

for example I adore Hugo but we've had 3 girls so haven't had a chance to use it

Oh no... I would be easily identifiable. The reaction was pretty extreme. My MIL told my SIL the baby had arrived. When she asked what she was called, my MIL replied 'I'll leave it to them to tell you'!!!

It's not that outrageous really, just a more unusual one. It does feature in baby name books and was in use in Victorian times but not since.

If you love it, use it! We had gasps over my DDs name but I think everyone likes it now and some people even love it. She's very proud of it and I think her name is part of her character.

I know of a little Bruno, his mother looks like she has swallowed a wasp. Too pretentious for my liking.

I also think of dogs. Despite having known 2 Brunos when I was a child (neither of whom were dogs)

I wanted this badly 4 yrs ago when I was pg with my son. I loved it. There is a saint Bruno. So it's not a dog's name as I was told.
