Not too poplular but not too wacky - which of these names meets this criteria!?

Hi, I seem to be going round in circles when it comes to possible names for DC3 (due in late March). Dh is not being much help! We already have an Isaac and a Felix (that's probably blown my cover if there's anyone on here who knows me!). We generally like slightly unusual but not too wacky names. Here is our my shortlist so far - any thoughts would be appreciated...

GIRLS:
Sylvie
Imogen
Anya
Miranda
Corinne

BOYS:
Reuben
Leo
(struggling more with boys names as you can see!)

Thanks

i wanted not 2 wacky or 2 common & called my DD Poppy

pinkpip100 · 02/02/2009 20:17

Wow thanks everyone, LOADS of great suggestions to work through here, and it is actually really helpful to hear other people's views on the names I was already considering too. I'm kind of sad now that I've only got one baby to name - maybe I'll have to start working on DH about the prospect of DC4 in a few years

I think Sylvie is just lovely.

I'm not very keen on either of your boys names TBH. One I love is Magnus. It crops on here quite often as belonging to beautiful men!

chaya5738 · 02/02/2009 18:52

Oooh, you have such similar tastes to me.

I like Sylvie and Anya.

What about Miriam? Or Helena? And I LOVE the suggestion of Noa for a girl.

For boys, I like both Reuben and Leo. What about Theo?

ilovesprouts · 02/02/2009 18:44

i like imogen was going to call ds2 and i like ruben as well soooo cute

MrsMattie · 02/02/2009 18:40

I like all your names. You have excellent taste

Leo and Sylvie my personal faves.

FairLadyRantALot · 02/02/2009 18:40

Imogen and Reuben from your list
and I lurve Noah....but dh hated it, therefore I have 3 sons but none of them called Noah

janeite · 02/02/2009 18:38

Really ElephantJuice? It never entered my head to use it for a girl and the chances of ever having dd3 to name (or even ds1!) are very low now! What's the difference in pronunciation?

elephantjuice · 02/02/2009 18:33

I love Noah!

Would even consider another baby just to use it! Could even be for a girl if you spell it Noa.

boccadellaverita · 02/02/2009 18:26

Apart from Leo - which is quite common around here - I think all the names on your original list pass the 'not too popular but not too wacky' test. The only one which I don't much care for is Corinne (I prefer Corinna as in the Bob Dylan song).

treacletart · 02/02/2009 18:21

I have an Imogen and she would have been an Isaac were she a boy! I love Reuben too. Other boys names : Angus, Noah, Otto, Gideon, Hector, Hamish. Other girls: Agatha, Clara, Ingrid, Greta ...

elephantjuice · 02/02/2009 18:12

janeite my dd1 is Rowan so you could have used it! Pronounced slightly differently than the boy version though.

Neeerly3 · 02/02/2009 17:37

(thanks janeite - tis on my list, baby due in 3 weeks shhhh!)

loobylu3 · 02/02/2009 17:34

Oh love Rufus, Cassius, Hugo and Caspar for a boy. I think these are less popular too.

janeite · 02/02/2009 17:34

Meredith is lovely. I absolutely adore Marianne too.

loobylu3 · 02/02/2009 17:33

GIRLS:
Sylvie-love this and not too popular
Imogen- quite popular though pretty
Anya- not one of my favourites (not too popular)
Miranda- beautiful and not too popular
Corinne-not one of my favourites (not too popular though)

Like Sylvie best, then Miranda for a girl

BOYS:
Reuben- like this but not unusual
Leo- not too keen on this but I think it is less popular.

Neeerly3 · 02/02/2009 17:31

Hector for a boy?

Meredith for a girl?

pinkpip, i have a thing about not overly popular names but decided to go with sophie for dd4, and on her first day out met 4 sophies. d'oh!

what about Francis/Frances

pinkpip100 · 02/02/2009 17:28

Sorry, too slow typing my reply and now look like I've ignored the comments about which names are popular!
Off to serve up dinner now but will be back later so thanks again for the input.

Sebastian did pop into my mind the other day actually but haven't yet broached it with DH so no idea what his reaction might be. We already have nephews called Oscar and Louis.

Are any of the names I've mentioned really popular at the mo? I seem to have an irrational fear of picking a name that ends up in the top ten the following year. I know it doesn't matter at all, and I should just choose the ones I like best but I can't shake that nagging worry.

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/02/2009 17:22

Imogen and Reuben both very popular.

How about Felicity for a girl?

Lawrence for a boy?

misdee · 02/02/2009 17:21

i wanted Malachi forn a boy. (have i spelt it right?)
