Ellis- would you use this for a boy or a girl?

I liked this if baby turned out to be a boy but recently heard of a wee girl with the name.
What is the mn opinion!
Don't want to give a boy a girls name iyswim!
This is dc 4 and the name sounds nice with the other dcs names.

welsh spelling is Elis
though I AM welsh, and use the Ellis form as i prefer the look of it lol

I have a boy Ellis
and only know boy's with that name

have only ever come accross one girl named Ellis,yrs ago @ playgroup

prefer Ella for a girl TBH (my girls choice,when preggers with Ellis! ) or Elyssia

I know one boy and one girl Ellis. The boy was born first, and the parents were rather put out when their friends named their daughter Ellis too. They're gorgeous, though, and it suits them both.

I used to be a primary school teacher and taught 2 Ellis', both boys. Never came across it as a girls name. I also know a lovely young man called Ellis so it has a good vibe for me x

I only know one Ellis and she's a girl. I had never heard the name before she was given it, and it never struck me that it might actually be a boys' name ....!

Traditionally, I believe Ellis to be a a boy's name. I have only ever taught males called Ellis.

However, there are plenty of similar female names - Elise, Elissa, Eloise, Alice....

I would use it for either. I had a lovely professor whose surname was Ellis, also Ellis Bell was Emily Bronte's pseudonym...

Neither, it's just too like Alice imo. If you say Alice in a Kerry accent it would be Ellis anyway. not a big deal if you don't live in Kerry I know.

problem with it is, if a girl is born with little hair ppl will assume she is a boy with a name like that.
which would be irritating! happened to a friend of mine, even tho she dressed her daughter head to toe in pink!
