Got a shortlist of four girls names and four boys names.
Saw a thread before which asked what pictures names conjured up so tell me a bit about the following people; are they fun, obnoxious, pretentious etc.

Any other suggestions welcome too.

Boys:

Aaron
Arthur
Lucas
Malachy

Girls:

Cara
Lucy
Marian
Zoe

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Aaron- has difficulties with his own name because half the world calls him air-on and the other half calls him a-rron. He wishes they'd called him something different

Arthur- flat cap, whippet.

Lucas- lovely boy, wears Boden, hair a bit long, mother wears cashmere cardis trimmed with velvet

Malachy- Stephen King type author will write weirdy possessed child with strange eyes book about him.

Girls:

Cara- will be feminine and floaty.

Lucy- so wet she drips.

Marian- will hate her parents for giving her such a BrendaJanet kind of name

Zoe - will be quirky and fun.

Aaron - thin, pale and a bit geeky
Arthur - robust, apple cheeked, outdoorsy
Lucas - I don't have a picture of Lucas in my head at all sorry!
Malachy - slightly creepy

Cara - party girl, a bit wild
Lucy - sweet if a little dull
Marian - bookish and clever
Zoe - again, can't seem to get an image of a Zoe in my head....

Apologies to anyone with children with those names, it's just what I visualise. I always think of Peters as being fat because when I was at primary school I had a friend called Peter who was fat. No Peter I have met since is fat, but the image has stuck with me.

DH has a problem with this also

Aaron - a bookish boy at school, in the vegan society, surprises everybody by joining the green party instead of going to uni
Arthur - educated professionals who live in a halls adjoining victorian villa in sw?
Lucas - lovely name, very popular, could suit loads of boys, I also like Marcus
Malachy - his Dad is Irish, his Mum is from Surrey, he is an extremely confident allrounder, but lacks modesty and humility.

Girls:

Cara - quite a buttoned up name. An unusual name which is still classic and conservative.
Lucy - So sweet, so dull.
Marian - no, a chain-smoking 65 yr old bridge-playing jaeger-wearing cruise hound. Marianne, please, Marianne.
Zoe - cute, I like it. She's be a tree-climbing kind of girl, not shy around boys, but she'd never flirt. She'd work fairly hard, wouldn't need to swot. She might wear glasses, but they'd be trendy ones, she'd be the first amongst her friends to do everything.

MrsBadger · 30/01/2009 15:41

well it'd be a diaeresis (two dots: Zoë), not an accent
we considered Zoe, and dh said no dots on the grounds they are poncey

purlease · 30/01/2009 15:39

right I think the girls shortlist has definitely been narrowed down - Marian not coming out well.

If DD had been a boy she would have been Arthur (3 years ago) but not sure if we still like it as much as we did then.

The problem with Zoe is 'should it have an accent on the e?'

Aaron - blonde and cute (always envisage this name as small boy, never as an adult)
Arthur - solid, respectable
Lucas - very sexy (influenced by Spooks viewing I suspect!)
Malachy - ? bafflement - would wonder if incorrect spelling for Malachi

Cara - either young and feisty or old and genteel
Lucy - parents aspirational, girl possibly a bit dull
Marian - white hair, bun, studious when younger
Zoe - fun and happy

HTH!

Ivykaty44 · 30/01/2009 15:28

Aaron - lovely wolly type boy
Arthur - bald head with sweeping long peice across from ear to ear, rather left wing with a big nose
Lucas - a car accesory place
Malachy - Irish lad with a cheeky grin

Girls:

Cara - rather lovely and waers long very long scarfs
Lucy - very sport good time girl
Marian - pain in the ar*e
Zoe - Good girl, never in trouble, but gets up to mischeif here and there.

BakewellTarts · 30/01/2009 15:24

Aaron - my friends little boy lively and full of fun.
Arthur - my absolute favourite boys name, the once and future king.
Lucas - Malfoy or George.
Malachy - a bit melancholic, don't see it as a name.

Cara - nickname for beloved, cute but would a 50 year old like to be called it?
Lucy - a bit bland and 70's.
Mairan - my MIL, who is difficult, so I couldn't get over this.
Zoe - Wannamaker, fiesty and energetic.

I can only do girls, but here's what I think!

Cara - quite a kind person - I was at school with a Kara so not sure if people would spell it incorrectly

Lucy - straighforward nice person

Marian - (images of someone older, sorry) and a bit matronly

Zoe - fun, like this one as well
