Got a shortlist of four girls names and four boys names.
Saw a thread before which asked what pictures names conjured up so tell me a bit about the following people; are they fun, obnoxious, pretentious etc.

Any other suggestions welcome too.

Boys:

Aaron
Arthur
Lucas
Malachy

Girls:

Cara
Lucy
Marian
Zoe

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Pendulum · 31/01/2009 19:07

I like Hannah. DD2 would have been Anna if I'd had my way.

Your boys' names are all very different in style. I would say Arthur 'goes' best with Hannah- both v wholesome, traditional names. Also quite musical to say together because both end in 'r' sound.

purlease · 31/01/2009 18:52

DD is Hannah

Pendulum · 31/01/2009 18:51

ha no I'm not Lucy. BTW Lucy for me = nice but a bit wet.

Must go and look up my own (very 70s) name in the list....

Purlease, sorry if you've already said but do you have other DCs and if so can you disclose their names?

purlease · 31/01/2009 18:29

hi sorry, I've been away a while. I need to do a bit of catching up. Some of these descriptions are great. Marian has most definitely been struck of the list.

MrsMattie, What names do you like - open to suggestions - 9 weeks to go

OP posts:
MrsMattie · 31/01/2009 16:27

Aaron
Arthur
Lucas
Malachy

Girls:

Cara
Lucy
Marian
Zoe

Oh God, they're all horrid, sorry. I describe them as...urrr...horridly named people.

(Please don't call your baby Marian)

Bucharest · 31/01/2009 15:34

Pendulum- are you confusing the lovely Lucas with Lucy? She's the one snivelling, I think you'll find.

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 31/01/2009 14:30

Aaron - teenager in London, proud of his ASBO
Arthur - old man in Pinner, proud of hs shed aand prize veg
Lucas - German, a ski instructor
Malachy - a green stone with stripes in
Cara - little Spanish dumpling with dark hair and luscious lips
Lucy - perpetual little girl.
Marian - middle aged gossip who works in the Post Office

Pendulum · 31/01/2009 14:10

Don't mean to be unconstructive (is that a word?) but I am suprised at the general perception of Lucas as fun and fanciable.

I have always picutred Lucas as a snivelly, sickly boy who carries a damp hanky around. Maybe some connection with Lucozade, now I think about it?

Aaron is tall and blond, prob quite sporty.

Arthur is a stocky, blond, Bodeny boy who grows up into a stocky, blond, Bodeny (perfectly nice) man- possibly a GP.

Malachy- I'm with the Nine Inch Nails and snake camp.

Must add that I have two girls and was quite relieved not to have to pick a boy's name as I found it extremely difficult!

MuffinToptheMule · 31/01/2009 14:03

Based on people I have known:

Aaron - easy going, one of the gang, likes to fit in
Arthur - has one tooth and diabetes. Likes sweets
Lucas - complete brat, mummy says 'I don't have to wear shoes'
Malachy - Feral Irish child with freckles. Malachi on the other hand - London 'rude boy'.

Cara - slightly chubby, but will age better than anyone else
Lucy - Middle class, going to rebel by going to Brighton on the train from London on a school day
Marian - receptionist who shops at M and S and likes all things floral
Zoe - AARGGGH! The most annoying girl known to man.

Bucharest · 31/01/2009 13:49

I think I'm starting to fancy Lucas.

tb73 · 31/01/2009 12:52

Aaron - simple and nice chap, lives in a 3 bed semi on a new estate and drives a ford focus
Arthur - Slighty eccentric lecturer with a food laden beard and dirty finger nails from the allotment
Lucas - has pretentious parents and is a spoilt brat
Malachy - Thick boy who always has a snotty nose and a mother that screaches 'M'lakeeeeeeey, get ere naaaaaaaaaaw'

Girls:

Cara - skives off school but popular with boys
Lucy - sweet and pretty girl, popular with peers and teachers
Marian - sensible and hard working with pleasant parents
Zoe - fun twentysomething who doesn't take life too seriously, loves clubbing. Ordinary.

CuppaTeaJanice · 31/01/2009 11:08

Loving this thread!

Are we helping at all, Purlease?

carasmum · 30/01/2009 23:45

Based on either people/kids I know or have know or what that name conjures up:

Aaron - Right little toughy, naughty but quite nice, always got a snotty nose!

Arthur - sickly and pale. Sweet mummys boy.

Lucas - tough little cookie mischievious and lovable.

Malachy - An irish accountant (sorry!)

Cara - my daughter, cheeky, lively, pretty, likes to make people laugh and has a gorgeous breathy giggle!!Tiny but really fiesty!

Lucy - cute and pretty, kind.

Marian - plain Jane, play piano, quiet and studious.

Zoe - mean, conceited, and selfish.

minesacheeseandpicklesandwich · 30/01/2009 23:29

Aaron is always in trouble, never his fault(!) thinks he can get away with murder and probably will try that for real one day - he still lives with his mother, who is slightly scared of him;
Arthur is bookish and quiet but a solid, dependable type who will end up earning a fortune in the city - he lives with his mother until he marries well, when he goes straight into a three-bedroomed detached house;
Lucas is gorgeous and knows it, but still fairly intelligent and friendly, with a knowing twinkle in his eye that will endear him to mothers everywhere - he has a small flat in a seedily-fashionable part of town which is decorated in a very 'come hither' way;
Malachy is a tall, dark, pony-tailed poet, who thinks that he just needs to be 'discovered' to be understood - he lives in a bedsit and attracts 'plain' girls who are desperate to be 'cool'.

Cara is fun and friendly, tries hard and has lots of casual friends - she works evenings in a trendy bar and hopes to meet someone famous who will sweep her off her feet;
Lucy is slightly spoilt and doesn't realise that her 'friends' are only with her because her family have money - she does 'charity work' when she isn't telling the nanny what to do;
Marion is quiet, dark-haired and quite beautiful in a subtle way - she wants to write for a living but hasn't got the confidence to send anything off;
Zoe is a bubbly party-goer and everybody's friend, petite and pretty with a sporty fella by her side - she works for an estate agent but wants to go into PR because she likes helping people and having fun at the same time.

Wow, that was fun - I have to start writing again...

seanybosmummy · 30/01/2009 23:05

I have a brother called Aaron, he is hilarious and mischievous!

Arthur-nerdy and old

Lucas- quiet and well behaved

Malachy- bald with glasses

cara-voluptious and secretive

lucy- stuck up

marian- middle aged and chatty

zoe- fun loving and likes to show off a nipple piercing to those willing and also non willing to look!

GrimbleTheResourceful · 30/01/2009 22:36

The boys, however, are in their twenties.

Aaron has blond hair, a round face, rugby-player build. He is difficult.

Arthur is tall, dark hair, solid. He's an entrepreneur. Actually, thinking about it, he has a successful business making cider in the west country.

Lucas is fair, also tall, clever, always had trouble with his adenoids.

Malachy is tall, skinny (in a good, wiry way)and troubled. He is great company but unhappy in his chosen career. He writes poetry.

GrimbleTheResourceful · 30/01/2009 22:30

All of these women are in their thirties.

Marian wears knee- length skirts and flat shoes, all of her clothes are in shades of brown. Her hair is mid-brown, shoulder-length, slighty wavy, no particular style. She is very reliable.

Cara has glossy black hair and good skin. She is disloyal and not to be trusted.

Lucy is a little plump, long blonde hair, always smiling. She is happy and fun to be with. Quite sexy actually.

Zoe also has blonde hair, short though. She is petite, always buzzing about, possibly has an over-active thyroid.

troutpout · 30/01/2009 20:54

Aaron..blonde hair...streetwise..smart...a lads lad
Arthur...curls..straberry blonde...pointy small features...rather clever.
Lucas.... dark hair...loud...bit of a rascal...very cute
Malachy....very small ,very dark haired....sorry can't get 'children of the corn' out of my head (was there a creepy malachy in that?)

Cara....pfb..parents a bit pushy
Lucy...tiny, quiet pale girl...does well at school...a little dull
Marian.... striking looking...clever..lots of spirit
Zoe ...big, boisterous ..freckles and toothy grin...lots of friends..not so clever

ADealingMummy · 30/01/2009 20:38

anothermansmother · 30/01/2009 20:07

Aaron- spoilt brat fromty the local council estate.
Arthur- nice lad, always up for a,laugh, usuallyknown as art.

marian- 70 year old woman( marion)although extremely beautiful ( person not name)

MeAndMyMonkey · 30/01/2009 19:49

Aaron: Drippy, wets himself at school aged 9

Cara: Cool, boho, slightly offbeat

IamLeticiaDean · 30/01/2009 19:34

I've only read the first page (my name is Marion and I just can't go on!) but I think:

Aaron: Bit soft
Arthur: Means Bear Man, can't go wrong
Lucas: Reliable, intelligent, kind
Malachy: freakish boy from Children of the Corn

Girls:

Cara: love it! Makes me think of tight curls and having fun
Lucy: Slightly dull but nice
Marian: I've always loved my name, loved the Maid Marian connection, will get called Maz for short.
Zoe: Slightly loopy.

Sesthinks2009willbeagreatyear · 30/01/2009 19:32

Boys:

Aaron - like it. My nephew's name. Suggests fun and would suit child and adult.
Arthur - bit too old fashioned for me but ok
Lucas - ok. Would you be happy with the inevitable shortening to Luke?
Malachy - sorry not one I like. Maybe a bit pretentious

Girls:

Cara - was considering this ourselves but I have a friend called Cara. She's lovely and to me it suggests someone fun yet chilled.
Lucy - nice but nothing special
Marian - bit too old fashioned for me. Makes me think of DH's Auntie Marion
Zoe - nice but all the Zoe's I know can be a bit 2 faced

(Apologies to anyone who's name or DC's name I have insulted! Have just tried to answer the OP)

Aaron is always in trouble at school. It's never his fault. The teacher is scared of him. Not as scared as she is of his mum.

Arthur wears a bow tie and carries a briefcase - at 12. He is bullied. A lot. He had a reading age of 14 when he was 5. He is an only child.

Lucas wears an England shirt ALL THE TIME. He thinks girls are smelly.

Malachy has floppy hair. He learnt to drive his dad's sports car at 10. He's smoked since he was 12. All the girls fancy him.He fancies his teacher.

Girls:

Cara is very popular. Tall. Clever.
Lucy is a bit two-faced.
Marian is always looking after people. Good at hockey.
Zoe used to be a boy.
