Not Mango or Princess Tiaami before anyone thinks they are being really witty!

I am mixed race dh is white, so our child would look olive skined (like ds) or very possibly like a pale black/mixed raced person. Just thought i'd get that in before anyone flames me! Telling me how awful it is to inflict such a name on a typical British looking child.

My name is arabic in origin. Ds has a very british biblical name and i would like a more unusual name if i were to have a girl.

Sorry there! meant to say dd is called Eliz!

misscat · 15/02/2009 15:15

My ds is olive-skinned & brown eyed (mixed race) her name is Eliz pronounced El-iz, rather than 'Elize'. Suits her down to the ground and I don't know of another. Receptionist at the GP surgery never fails to tell me how lovely her name is.

I have heard of Araminta. I know a mixed race Safia and I have heard of Demelza. This is in reply to odd posts here and there.

choosyfloosy · 31/01/2009 20:27

Aminata

I have fallen for this name in a big way.

msdemented · 30/01/2009 23:15

Sorry - pronounced Sid oh nie (emphasis on second syllable)

msdemented · 30/01/2009 23:14

Sidonie.

I would have called dd this if I hadn't chosen to call her Gabrielle after my mother instead (out of guilt - a way of saying 'thankyou' and 'I love you' to my mum who is the best grandma in the world)

Actually I think you're right about that, Leo9 - I think I was getting confused with Thea.

Leo9 · 29/01/2009 19:55

I would spell it Tia rather than cup-of-tea tea!

I think Thandie is the best name on this thread. Thandie Tia might be a bit much together though

LittleMissBliss · 29/01/2009 19:43

Thanks for the heads up thumbwitch! Wouldn't want to call a child after bloody poo. lol

Thanks for all the extra suggestions.

Still think i'm sticking with my top ten!

I dont like Malena cos it sounds too much like melaena (a medical term referring to black stools that indicate blood in the stool - sorry!)

Tea - yes, Te-ah

LittleMissBliss · 28/01/2009 20:28

Sancia is too close to my name may become a bit confusing!

Malena is lovely, as Malaya, i really like sing-song names. Well most names ending in a really .

Tea would be a lovely middle name i think.
Is it pronounced tea-a? Sazzerbear,
Was it an African/ African American person?
I've come across
a
Comfort- really suited the lady
Charity
Sugar
Coffee
Happiness
Patience
Secret(???)

Some of them aren't to my taste. It's pretty standard within the culture to name babies after emotions or atributes they wish on the child. So paradise doesn't surprise me. Not sure about their choice of spelling....
