do you visualise Sedgewick or Macredie?

is lovely. dd2 (20mo) would approve, she's quite the balamory fan and her answer to many questions is "i know!... edie!". often she'll come out with it apropos of nothing at all...

Clary · 30/01/2009 22:41

Edith Wharton
Edith Cavell
Edith Piaf
Edith Weston (small village near Stamford

I like the name but it's Edith not Edie please. Otherwise it is Macredie.

Surprised to hear so many Ediths - I know one (and I know a lot of children)

Abouteve an Edith in her 40s (my age) is very unusual isn't she! I had a school pal called Sophie - she would fit righ tin among a gaggle of 7yos today!

Podrick · 30/01/2009 16:19

Edith Sitwell is who I think of!

TheFirstLiffey · 30/01/2009 15:36

I really like it. I would put Edith on the bc though. Not Eden. Eden is ch*v

Frasersmum123 · 25/01/2009 17:00

My friend has a little girl called Edith, and its such a pretty name and not so common. She also gets called Edie

nigglewiggle · 25/01/2009 09:48

We have an Edith, shortened to Edie. We do call her Macredie (at home) as our DD1 (3 yrs) thinks it's funny.

I love it, but be prepared for a few "oh" responses when you tell people.

violethill · 25/01/2009 09:36

Agree with seeker. Edith is actually rather beautiful.

Edie doesn't sound like a real name on its own - a bit like being christened Millie or Evie or Tilly. Give has a proper name, and let her shorten it when she chooses.

seeker · 25/01/2009 08:55

I love Edith with Edie as a shortening. Don't think you should use Edie as the "proper" name though - give her the choice when she's older. You can just always use Edie even if her birth certificate says Edith.

lulalullabye · 25/01/2009 08:30

love it !

CrushWithEyeliner · 25/01/2009 08:26

I love it but it is a strange little name....

It makes me think of the Cult song too - which is about Edie Sedgwick.

Or Edie Brickell

I wouldn't automatically visualise Edie Macredie

lotspot · 24/01/2009 22:34

makes me think of edie brit from desperate housewives but stil i think it's lovely =]
i like it as short for edith as well as just on its own

DistortedAngel · 24/01/2009 21:44

Love the name - makes me think of Ciao Baby (for Edie) by The Cult - great song also.

Remotew · 24/01/2009 21:03

My mate Edith hated it and shortened to Edie. It suits her. She's mid 40's.

nkf · 24/01/2009 20:56

I like Edith.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 24/01/2009 20:55

I have an Edie (Edith) and she has very much made it her own name

naswm · 24/01/2009 20:53

Neither

I like the name though
