I'm due in April and if the baby is a boy I want to call him Ernie....I think it's lovely. DP isnt keen but I might be able to convince him before the arrival!

What does everyone think??? Any similar name suggestions too please!!

Actually, now I come to think of it, ds's swimming teacher is called Ernie.

pluto · 21/01/2009 22:51

No. I like Eric though.

whingeomatic · 21/01/2009 22:50

nancy75 · 21/01/2009 22:49

yeah, auwowa just isnt the same!

Bumperslucious · 21/01/2009 22:48

'bumperslucious i wanted to call my dd aurora, good thing i didnt she says her 'r's like johnathan ross! '

Nancy, I'm not kidding you, that was the exact reason why DH said we couldn't call DD Aurora. Bless your DD though!

Fimbo · 21/01/2009 22:47

Och he found the outfit in the back of his cupboard whilst I was cleaning it out and you know what 5 yr old boys are like once they get an idea into their head. There was no persuading him to take it off, I didn't expect to run into a kosher Ernie though.

dizzydixies · 21/01/2009 22:45

pmsl fimbo you couldn't have planned that if you tried although I have to ask why he was going to a furniture showroom dressed as underground Ernie?!?

Fimbo · 21/01/2009 22:44

No.

Ds went out dressed as Underground Ernie the other weekend. We went to a furniture showroom, we spoke to a the sales chap, the name on his badge was yep Ernie. He then asked ds who he was dressed as. Tres embarrassing.

dizzydixies · 21/01/2009 22:43

kidcreoleandthecoconuts don't be taking anything to heart on hear

the baby names threads are notorious and bumper just means that sometimes people are a little lacking in forethought for their babies' names when pregnant and hormonal

I have to admit I'd be a bit if I saw someone with boys named Bert and Ernie

ilovemydogandMrObama · 21/01/2009 22:42

No -- just no for Ernie and Bert

Unless you are thinking of 'Cookie Monster' too?

nancy75 · 21/01/2009 22:42

dizzydixies im with you on this one!
ernie on his own is a milkman, with bert as a brother you only need big bird and you can start your own show

RIAchforthestars · 21/01/2009 22:41

yup, know that too dizzy

sunny day, chasing the clouds? away, find my way to where the air is sweet, lala la....

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 21/01/2009 22:40

Who do you suggest should name my baby then Bumper? Should I start a thread on MN and choose the one with the most votes?

I liked Aurora too.

Laura was as close as I could get .

I leant my baby name book to a friend. Her dh then said to me "Who the hell has been underlining these ridiculous names?" .

dizzydixies · 21/01/2009 22:39

does this mean nothing to anyone but me?!?

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 21/01/2009 22:39

Riach I thought it was cart. Then changed my mind.

dizzydixies · 21/01/2009 22:38

Kidcreoleandthecoconuts can I just get this straight? You already have a DS called Bertie (great name by the way, love it love it) and you're considering Ernie?

nancy75 · 21/01/2009 22:38

bumperslucious i wanted to call my dd aurora, good thing i didnt she says her 'r's like johnathan ross!

Bumperslucious · 21/01/2009 22:37

I say this in the nicest possible way, and not directly to the OP but to all of us, and from the position of having been pg and wanting to call DD Sapphire or Aurora:

PREGNANT WOMAN REALLY SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO NAME THEIR BABIES

LadyPinkofPinkerton · 21/01/2009 22:35

It was my Grandads name but not a name I'd pick for a baby now

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 21/01/2009 22:35

Well not his real name but we called him Bertie when I was pregant and it stuck....Bertie Bubbles

I am under 40, my DS1 has eclectic tastes!

Herbert is nice too.

LaDiDaDi · 21/01/2009 22:34

I like dizzydixies suggestions.

I'm 30 and I think "milkman" in response to Ernie.

RIAchforthestars · 21/01/2009 22:33

I think it was "cart" rahter than float.

I digress,

Clement is a nice old name.
