mazzystartled · 21/01/2009 21:51

I really really like it
But there are two on our street

seeker · 21/01/2009 21:46

I think names ending in a always sound like girls names. Please don't do it.

cheesesarnie · 21/01/2009 21:44

lovely

lingle · 21/01/2009 21:43

remember, it does not matter whether other mothers like it. but it does matter if other boys tease him.

Perhaps boys have changed since Luca and I were children. But I doubt it. If you are not Italian, then it's no multiplied by two.

dsrplus8haggisandneeps · 21/01/2009 21:11

if you like itallian names, how about , fabio or donatelli, enzo is quite nice too!

dsrplus8haggisandneeps · 21/01/2009 21:08

love it , always wanted luca or luchiania ,for dc but doesnt go with the family surname, (would have went with my maiden name, lol).wish id stuck to it the world needs another LUCA !

marge2 · 21/01/2009 21:00

Luca is a really nice name.! Go for it!

emma1977 · 21/01/2009 20:59

I wanted to call ds Luca.

I bottled it at the last minute after a few comments from my mum, but still love the name.

lingle · 21/01/2009 20:59

I am so sorry, but I'm going to ask you not to do this. Please make it his second name.

If he is confident, it will be fine. But if he is in the least bit shy or vulnerable, it will expose him to bullying. Names finishing with "a" signify the feminine in most languages including ours.

My (Italian) schoolfriend is Luca. I vividly remember the howls of laughter as the teacher mispronounced his name "Lucy" on the first day of school. He was regularly teased about it. He coped, but it was a burden. It is a cool name now and he loves it but the harm is done. Please make it the middle name.

kerryk · 21/01/2009 20:51

i have never heard of it before but it looks nice written down.

how is it pronounced?

is it like look-ah?

tumtumtetum · 21/01/2009 19:33

'I live on the second floor, I live upstairs from you....' But great name, nonetheless!

singersgirl · 21/01/2009 18:27

It's fine if you're Italian.

Doozle · 21/01/2009 18:20

I love it too.

lou33 · 21/01/2009 18:19

SecretSlattern · 21/01/2009 18:13

My surname is Luca although spelt slightly differen (which I will not reveal in case I am being watched )

Sycamoretree · 21/01/2009 18:09

I love it. Wanted it. DH nixed it.

I had a lovely friend at Uni called Luca. Go for it.

paolosgirl · 21/01/2009 17:58

I love it. My next door neighbour's little boy is called Luca - they are an Italian family but it's a name that I think translates to the UK really well

Astarte · 21/01/2009 17:58

I adore it and have used it , but I'm worried now whether it is becoming a bit popular. C'est la vie.

Ours was named with Suzanne Vega reference.

Sesi · 21/01/2009 17:56

If you're not freaked out by the top 100 like me lol, Luca seems perfect for a name which is not too unusual but not a Jack type of name.

Lastyearsmodel · 21/01/2009 17:55

I love it too. My brother has a friend called Luca and he is a lovely fellow.

It would have been on our list but felt it would suit more Meditteranean types as it's Italian-sounding. We're a very Anglo-Saxon looking lot, extremely pale, well suited to Gaelic names.

CuppaTeaJanice · 21/01/2009 17:52

I like it but it's slightly spoilt for me by a young Luca in a local toddler group who has the most ridiculous haircut!
