We do have Italian connections, both sides are Italian, and we have an Italian surname. DH thinks that with his name ds is bound to be a footballer and play for Juventus!!

HeadFairy · 03/02/2009 19:13

Lovely, but then I'm biased as it's ds' name

amandine07 · 03/02/2009 19:12

I really like it, is rather cool sounding, should be no problems with the spelling. Feel sorry for kids who have complicated sounding/spelt names- poor things!

minch · 28/01/2009 13:19

lovely name

ime there's no problem whatsoever in the playground, btw - luca is well enough known as a boy's name now that there's no question of teasing

Koumak · 28/01/2009 10:38

Did you consider calling him LUKAS? Eastern European thing ? think that?s why ER Luca was as well ?
Can than be pronounced without s or with and then it definitely will NOT look or sound like girls name. I love it. It is on my list.

Lulubee · 27/01/2009 15:59

My little boy is called Luca and we get loads of compliments. No real Italian connections either,m but DH's best friends are Italian, so we use that as an excuse. I just can't find another name I like as much for the next one sadly!

CoteDAzur · 27/01/2009 15:45

Very popular where we live, which is kind of normal because Italy is 15 min away.

If you are not Italian, go for Luke.

roulade · 27/01/2009 15:31

My son is called Luca, so i love it!!!! oh and singersgirl his nonno is italian!!

LittleMissBliss · 26/01/2009 17:20

Love Luca and Lucas. They were possible names for ds.

Frasersmum123 · 26/01/2009 17:08

Love it - reminds me of ER

Ashantai · 26/01/2009 16:51

I agree with you DrowningInClutter, i'm probably lovin the name Luca because of "Mr Sex on Legs" Luca from ER

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 26/01/2009 16:47

love it

Ashantai · 26/01/2009 16:46

Love it, Love it, Love it

Pinkchampagne · 26/01/2009 16:44

My DP's nephew has both your friend's son's names, lou - one first name & one as his middle name! He is a lovely little boy, so I like the name.

Mammina · 23/01/2009 18:10

have always liked it

DrowningInClutter · 23/01/2009 17:59

Makes me think of Luca (or is he Luka?) from ER. I have rather a soft spot for him so IMO this is a good association

MuchLessTiredNow · 23/01/2009 17:56

I think it is quite pretty - but I would always be singing 'hello, my name is Luca' and it is a very very sad song about a child being abused, no?

TwoIfBySea · 23/01/2009 17:52

Haha, no Pippi! It starts with a C, 6 syllables (sp) long.

And I still like Enzo, even if it is old and fuddy-duddy! Lets face it, people call their kids Albert and Alfie which I think are old men names.

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2009 17:07

twoifbysea does your italian/scottish friend's surname starts with R by any chance? (not stalking )

from an italian point of view in italy Luca sounds boring as hell. I guess here sounds quite exhotic, although very popular especially in london even among non-italians. so if you like it i'd go for it without worrying about bulling and the like.

enzo def sounds old even though dd1 best friend in italy (aged 2) is called that.

helenhismadwife · 22/01/2009 17:04

I like Luca or Luke

annasmami · 22/01/2009 13:45

I would only name my son Luca if we had Italian connections.

And even if I wanted an Italian name, I'd probably choose a less common one.

Brangelina · 22/01/2009 13:22

Hello Bucharest! Seen Scamy lately?

Bucharest · 22/01/2009 13:20

What Brangelina says...with bells on.
I loathe it, I have an irrational hatred for it. In both Italian and English.....

Brange- Dd has a Kevin in her nursery class- utter bonkers. On all levels.

saltcod · 22/01/2009 13:19

Love it - DS is called Luca and no italian connections here

Brangelina · 22/01/2009 13:19

Enzo is old man. Nobody under the age of 45 is called Enzo these days.
