How would you spell Isobel?

I HATE 'creative' spellings but there seem to be so many alternatives to Isobel - Isabel, Isabelle etc. Which one do you think is the best?

I would spell it Isabel.

PrimroseHall · 04/02/2009 12:56

Isabelle is the only it looks right for me.

VeryAnnieMary · 04/02/2009 12:55

Isobel is gorgeous, elegant and classic imho.

lastboxoftampons · 04/02/2009 11:17

Ha, DH and I are having this same debate! He likes Isabelle and I like Isabel. I have Spanish and Italian heritage, and I quite like the idea of it being the European equivalent of Elizabeth.

annasmami · 04/02/2009 11:02

I like Isabel, Isabella or Isabelle.

I don't like it with an 'o' - spellt that way it wouldn't work well in German, French and Spanish.

mummy2t · 04/02/2009 10:48

i love Isabelle

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 21:11

I think you need to first decide what you would prefer it to be shortened to. I love Belle as a shortening so would opt for Isabelle.

amandine07 · 03/02/2009 19:28

I like Isabelle as it looks prettier than the other versions!

Tinker · 19/01/2009 23:04

Reading this is making my head spin. Lovely name but glad I've never had to worry about how to spell it.

devientenigma · 19/01/2009 22:55

I prefer Izzy to Isabel.

lunamoon2 · 19/01/2009 22:53

Isobel is how I would automatically spell it.

I was told that it is the Spanish version of Elizabeth.

Lovely name.

LobstersLass · 19/01/2009 22:07

Isobel. It's how I would instinctively spell the name if I heard it.

I'm not keen on Isabelle, to me it looks like someone couldn't make their mind up between Isobel and Isabella.

pointydog · 19/01/2009 21:55

Isobel is the Scottish way, I believe. Isabelle, French.

cheesesarnie · 19/01/2009 21:46

i think isobel.

although i think g-a-r-y works well.

AngeG · 19/01/2009 21:44

Isobelle!

missymoo2411 · 19/01/2009 21:39

izobelle,izobel,izabel,esabelle,isabel

waspriceyp · 19/01/2009 21:27

I know what you mean about the hardness of IsObel, but I like that spelling because of that! It's a soft sounding name with a grown up tough spelling!

Leo9 · 19/01/2009 21:14

I think Isabel is the prettiest

Just5minspeace · 19/01/2009 20:32

Isobel

LittleCheese · 19/01/2009 20:26

LittleCheese · 19/01/2009 20:25

We have Isabelle I also personaly dont like the look of the 'o' in Isobel I also never ever wanted er name shortened to Izzi and felt at least with Isabelle, belle was an obvious shortened name

bodiddly · 19/01/2009 20:18

I prefer Isabelle and it has more potential for shortening if that is the way you want to go - for some reason I don't like the look of the "o" in the middle of "Isobel" seems a little hard. Just call me weird!

cuddlemum · 19/01/2009 20:13

I think they are all well recognised spellings and not made up ones so it just comes down to your personal preference.
I personally like Isobel or Isabel (find Isabelle a little too frilly).
