What do you think of these?
Any other ideas for girly flower/ nature type names.
Daisy, Rose are lovely but perhaps a little too poplular just now.
Thx

I love that Iris was the Greek goddess of the rainbow. Our DD also has a name of one of the ancient Greek goddesses!

never had the poison Ivy , although it gets sortened to "I"

Wonderful name

Momino · 15/01/2009 15:08

i really like Zinnia as it's uncommon but it's a close friend's name so won't use it for babycomingsoon.

islandofsodor · 15/01/2009 14:55

There is an Ivy in ds's class at school and the daughter of te owners of our local Chinese take-away.

I think its a lovely name (mind she is a gorgeous little thing anyway)

greenday · 15/01/2009 14:53

Iris is nice but I tend to think of the eye more than the flower.

Ivy is nice too, until she upsets someone in school or work and inevitably, will be labelled Poison Ivy.

My DD is Yasmin. My Nan is Violet which I like too.

delightedoldbag34 · 15/01/2009 13:11

I also love Topaz (but seem to be alone on that one!) although I do know a very cute little Topaz who is about 3 I think.

delightedoldbag34 · 15/01/2009 13:10

Verity is very pretty.

nailpolish · 15/01/2009 13:00

Iris is a lovely name

jeanjeannie · 15/01/2009 12:55

Cuddlemum - we've had FAB reactions to the name - no one has raised an eyebrow in horror (to our faces) or thought that it was in someway 'trendy' IYSWIM!

Iris is actually the Greek Godess of the rainbow

We've called DD2 Verity and people have had lots of opinions on that - usually V good or V bad - but we don't care!!!!

BabyBaby123 · 15/01/2009 12:03

i like Iris.

Ivy is horrible!

nailpolish · 15/01/2009 11:18

Viola
Primrose
Hyacinth
Peonie
Poppy
Holly

belgo · 15/01/2009 11:17

no one mentioned Hazel?

bluebump · 15/01/2009 11:16

I love Iris but i'm biased as it's my nan's name.

savoycabbage · 15/01/2009 11:15

My sister had Iris on her baby name list and her dh said

'why do you want to name our baby after a part of the eye'

It put her right off. In his defence he is not English.

cuddlemum · 15/01/2009 11:08

Love Flora but don't think DP would agree.
Do people still think that Iris is too old fashioned or have you all had positive reactions to the name?

lastboxoftampons · 15/01/2009 11:06

I love Ivy.
What about Jacinda? It's actually Spanish for Hyacinth.

jeanjeannie · 15/01/2009 11:01

I've got an Iris - so I'm biased. Not that popular where I am although I think it'll change.

Love Heather and Violet.

Have noticed lots more Fearnes and Willow about - think that may be the celeb connection.

Here are some I raked up while I was looking for a name for DD2
Cloris - Greek goddess of flowers
Delphine - the larkspur flower
FLora
Coral - Coralie
Petunia - my MIL's name
Saffron
Zinnia

jennylindinha · 15/01/2009 11:01

I love Iris! But I am a little biased as it is my DD's name

Not so sure about Ivy. Lily and Rose are lovely, but too popular. You could go for Lilian or Rosemary, something that could be shortened.

Violet is sweet though.

cuddlemum · 15/01/2009 10:54

I like Violet and Lily a lot but friends/ relatives have babies with these names.
Like Jasmine too- thx

Usthree · 15/01/2009 10:29
