Hi all

We are pretty sure we are having a boy but choosing a boy's name is driving us mad! We have decided on Charlotte Emily for a girl. All the boys names we love are taken by other members of our families already (Harry, Thomas, George, James, Joshua, Jack, Oliver, Henry and William). Oliver is a second cousin and our favourite so we were thinking about using this as he is not an immediate relative, although we already know about 5 other baby Olivers! We also have a surname that begins with a vowel so it might be a bit of a mouthful but do-able. In short, we will use the name unless we can find anything else we love. Been down the 100 top names for 2009 and nothing stands out. Want a classic name ... my friend has a baby Hugo, obviously can't call it that but it is a classic whilst still being modern IYSWIM! Any ideas?!!

What about Jethro?

Clary · 11/02/2009 23:54

Don't pick Oliver if you want to be unusual. It's a very nice name but there are 3 in DS2's yr (22 boys) and I must know at least 10 others under 10.

EachPeachPearMum · 11/02/2009 03:35

Not Monty! I knew a Montague and he was a tart!

CandleQueen · 14/01/2009 17:47

We have a Jacob and that is definitely his name. Nobody shortens it. There are lots of Jakes and Jacks, so Jacob stands out a little more.

LiffeyKidman · 14/01/2009 17:46

Oh can't be in top 100?

Ok, right,, editing list
Patrick, Gregory, Richard/Richie, Victor, Guy, Saul.. and adding a few new ones, Donald, Douglas, Bruce..

Bubbaluv · 14/01/2009 17:16

Richard - Richie?
Leo has been suggested already and I love that!
Angus

MrsSeanBean · 14/01/2009 17:14

Aaargh - missing apostrophe should have been 'Jonty's nice'.

LiffeyKidman · 14/01/2009 17:14

Harry, Thomas, George, James, Joshua, Jack, Oliver, Henry and William.

Ok so you like classic, regal names?

How about Dominic, Patrick, Frederick Benedict, Louis, Gregory, Leo (all the Popes!)

No bible names on your list I notice but if you're not averse to bible names, Saul is also lovely and unusual, but sensible still. Peter would fit into your list above quite seamlessly. So would Richard, maybe with Richie for short. Edward/Teddy is not taken by anybody is it?

Victor springs to mind because of Hugo, but it is a classic quirky name, which I predict will come back within a few years. (on the back of Oscar, Hector and Jaspar). It's cadence is in vogue, if not the actual name, yet.

What about Gus? Classic, simple. Guy?

MrsSeanBean · 14/01/2009 17:13

Jontys nice

How about Monty too? (Not enturely sure what that's shortened from though - Montague or Montgomery perhaps...)

happynewRia · 14/01/2009 17:12

I love Silas and Gabriel
