don't like Jemima or Tabitha (Jemima says duck to me, Tabitha says cat...) the rest are fine, not to my taste but fairly nice, non offensive names!

lastboxoftampons · 14/01/2009 18:25

I like Abigail, Isobel and Tabitha

Not keen on Jemima or Eleanor (I'm American and brings up visions of Eleanor Roosevelt who was NOT a pretty woman! Also, we tend to pronounce it ELLEN-OR, where as many people here say it ELLEN-A, which to me should be spelled Elena (I do love that name though!))

janeite · 14/01/2009 18:23

Until I had my Isobel and my mum made a comment, I had no idea that this way was not considered "the usual spelling" - what IS consdered the norm?

jellybeans · 14/01/2009 09:00

Abigail...OK
Isobel...like but prefer usual spelling
Jemima...dislike
Eleanor.....Nice
Tabitha....Love it

Thanks everyone! We're keeping the families guessing on the gender of LO so it's great to have some impartial reactions. Much appreciated.

Isobel for me, that was one of mine, and Eleanor. I put a post on for my baby names and got a really reaction I think its helpful to put your names out there before the big day. Good luck!

janeite · 13/01/2009 21:57

I love Isobel (this spelling: I have one!) and Eleanor but prefer it spelled Elinor.

I don't like Jemima or Tabitha.

Springflower · 13/01/2009 21:53

Like Eleanor and Tabitha best from your list.

ohdearwhatamess · 13/01/2009 21:42

Love Eleanor and Isobel.

dinkymum · 13/01/2009 21:37

REALLY love Jemima and Tabitha especially Jemima! If I had another DD i'd definitely want Jemima!

loobylu3 · 13/01/2009 19:52

Abigail- okay
Isobel- lovely (dd's middle name)
Jemima- okay, pretty but does remind me of puddle duck
Eleanor- lovely, classic
Tabitha- not keen- tabby cat- sorry!

ReginaFelange · 13/01/2009 19:30

Love Tabitha and Jemima. Not keen on the others

pamelat · 13/01/2009 19:19

Abigail - nice
Isobel - lovely but incredily popular
Jemima - lovely but "puddle duck"
Eleanor - my favourite
Tabitha - also makes me think of a cat (is it because of tabby cat?!)

wb · 13/01/2009 19:13

All nice except Jemima (which would also be lovely if you were having a puddleduck)

Nancy66 · 13/01/2009 19:06

Good list - Jemima is the only one I'm not wild about.

Tabitha is head and shoulders above the rest for me. There's an awful lot of Eleanors, Isobels and Abigails, lovely though they are.

Tidey · 13/01/2009 18:35

I'm not keen on Jemima or Tabitha, but the other three names are lovely.

LaDiDaDi · 13/01/2009 18:30

Abigail-like it a lot
Isobel-love it, dd's middle name but very popular
Jemima-love it, my dp wasn't keen
Eleanor-nice, very elegant and quite grown-up imo.
Tabitha-not keen

moshie · 13/01/2009 18:24

Eleanor is my favourite from your list, lots of Isobels around at the moment. Others OK, except for Jemima.

Horton · 13/01/2009 18:20

Love them all, especially Tabitha (I have one of those).

Jemima is v high up on my list for another daughter, should I have one.

Abigail is my least favourite.

Hassled · 13/01/2009 18:14

Abigail my least favourite, but I like them all. There do seem to be quite a lot of Jemimas around at the moment.

stacysmom · 13/01/2009 18:11

Sure does!

optimisticmumma · 13/01/2009 18:06

Don't forget they still have their name when they are spotty teenagers. My 13 year old has friends with all those names apart from
Tabitha!
Not that keen on Tabitha and she will definitely be called Tabs or the twitchet!!

Love the others though. Hope this helps!

stacysmom · 13/01/2009 18:03

Chancellor - not sure where the spelling comes from, I nicked it from a CD! (Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan).

We deliberately want something that can be shortened but it's great to get a steer one what's popular. With this being our first we're not yet plugged in to the word on the street!

Tillyscoutsmum · 13/01/2009 17:55

Like Eleanor & Isobel but both very popular.

Jemima and Abigail are both ok - not offensive but not my taste iyswim

Love Tabitha - by far my favourite'\

fiestabelle · 13/01/2009 17:52

Love Isobel - I also like Eleanor but like previously poster said likely to get shortened to Ellie.
