Beautiful name that is easily pronouncable in many other languages.

I wouldn't worry about the Skoda car associations because in 5-10 years these won't be around anymore anyway.

I like it and think it's a very pretty name but it is a bit of a mouthful and there aren't too many abbreviations possibilities.

TsarChasm · 09/01/2009 11:29

The ostrich on Pipkins iirc. Mind you, who remembers that, it was years ago.

Fimbo · 09/01/2009 11:29

I know one and she truly hates her name

nailpolish · 09/01/2009 11:28

its a very snobbish name

HelenBurns · 09/01/2009 11:27

Belgo, I love gustaaf

Your ds has such a wonderful name! (tis fa btw)

violethill · 09/01/2009 10:07

I'm with the pedants on this - it's a beautiful name, but it seemed wrong to give it to dd 1 or 2, when it means 'eighth', and I don't like it enough to have 8 children

belgo · 09/01/2009 09:57

Lancelotte - I wanted Octaaf as a middle name for ds who was also born in October - but dh disagreed (went for Gustaaf instead which is a family name)

Lancelottie · 09/01/2009 09:55

Nearly got to use it for our number 3 -- born on 7th October. I was going to insist on it if she'd been born on the 8th!

Neeerly3 · 09/01/2009 09:47

nope, sorry don't like it, when I say it it always comes out in a cockney accent and sounds rubbish...

RachieB · 09/01/2009 09:44

agree with Lou!

LouMacca · 09/01/2009 09:38

Awful unless you are v. posh.

ILiketoMarmiteMarmite · 09/01/2009 09:36

Beautiful name, but agree about the 8th child and the pedant.

crokky · 09/01/2009 09:08

I drive one...

PuppyMonkey · 09/01/2009 08:55

Poncey.... sorry.

Takver · 09/01/2009 08:51

Pretty, but the Octavia I know gets called Occy by her schoolfriends which I don't like so much.

BonsoirAnna · 09/01/2009 08:32

Very pretty.

Dottoressa · 09/01/2009 08:29

Gorgeous. It was on my list for DD, but was another one that DH vetoed. Go for it!!

frogs · 09/01/2009 08:27

We nearly called dd2 Octavia, but I'm enough of a classics nerd to know that the 8th child thing would annoy me.

It's a lovely name, and Tavy would be a sweet nickname.

belgo · 09/01/2009 08:25

it's so annoying when they give cars a pretty girl's name.

There's a car called Elize I think?

largeginandtonic · 09/01/2009 08:23

I love it, have been sort of holding out to get to #8 child to use it.

#7 due Monday and pretty sure there will be no #8 now. Am a bit upset as it is such a lovely name.

Fillyjonk · 09/01/2009 08:20

i like it

its a car though

Tigerschick · 09/01/2009 08:07

I think it's a pretty name but my parents have a Skoda Octavia so it will always be tarnished with that for me now.

It's pretty so, if you're not bothered about the car link, go for it.

belgo · 09/01/2009 08:05

I've always liked it.
