What do you think of Obi for a boy?

beaniebaby25 · 03/01/2009 11:06

reminds me of some Anerican (i think) rapper called Obi-trice...

nkf · 03/01/2009 11:02

I think Obi is usually just part of a longer Nigerian name.

BabyTalk13 · 03/01/2009 00:05

I really like it
Id link it more to hollyoaks as dont like star wars and have never watched it but names are always going to remind people of something/someone so if you like it go for it, i think its such a cute name!!!

feedthegoat · 02/01/2009 23:11

There was an Obi born in our ante natal group. Most of group were abit when heard it first and a fair few star wars jokes.

Nancy66 · 02/01/2009 23:07

There's an American rapper called Obi - might or might not affect your decision.

MrsMerryHenry · 02/01/2009 20:38

Ah-ah! So yu ah choosing eh Naija nehm?

(Trans: Wow, so you're choosing a Nigerian name?)

I'm impressed.

Just thought you might also like an intro to Nigerian pidgin English .

P.S it's most likely short for lots of different versions of the name.

FairLadyRantALot · 02/01/2009 20:33

OBI

LynetteScavo · 02/01/2009 18:34

I like it - and I'm not Nigerian or a Star Wars fan - although I think it shound short for somthing else - all though I cna't think what for the life of me.

bigbaubles · 02/01/2009 18:34

I know an Onuwatobi. Known as Obi or Tobi. I think it's gorgeous in its long or short forms!

noonki · 02/01/2009 18:32

me too!

obiboy · 02/01/2009 18:10

We know its Nigerian altho we aren't from Nigeria. We are not Star Wars fans.

We just love the sound.

My brothers cat is called Obi.

Wilts · 02/01/2009 17:37

There is a girl at my son's school called Obi.

FairLadyRantALot · 02/01/2009 17:34

hm...automatically thought of Star wars, too...

or there is a furniture/DIY shop in my Hometown called Obi...hm....

if it is the Star wars thing...I personally would say Annekin (sp?) is nicer

bluebump · 02/01/2009 17:34

I actually know a child called Obi, and he was named after the Star Wars character.

noonki · 02/01/2009 17:33

weird connections aside it is a very lovely name

MrsNewYear · 02/01/2009 17:21

It's also a town in France. There was a boy at my nursery called Obi (because of the French connection!) and it was a bit strange for five seconds, but it's certainly not the weirdest name I've come across!!!

Love it I do.

I'm dribbling piss here!! LMAO!

nkf · 02/01/2009 17:17

I knew it was a Nigerian name but somehow I assumed the OP didn't and had just happened on it.

BabyBaby, you're right it's Nigerian.
If there is a cultural link then, go for it. If not, then I stand by my previous post.

BabyBaby123 · 02/01/2009 17:15

just looked it up and it is West African, Nigerian to be precise

BabyBaby123 · 02/01/2009 17:13

i don't know anything about star wars

it sounds like an African name to me. It's quite nice but would be odd if there is no cultural connection imo

nkf · 02/01/2009 17:13

I was going to post the Star Wars reference but someone beat me to it?

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 02/01/2009 17:12

Isn't it the name of the ornamental belts that go 'round kimono?

Not sure about it for a name.
Sorry.
