Barbara?

Missmodular · 27/12/2008 22:12

It's got the exact ingredients I'm looking for, in that it's not remotely unusual and yet nobody is calling their daughters it any more. But I still can't take it seriously - must be the Barbara Windsor association!

But can anyone think of other girls names along this ilk?

My old yoga teacher is Valeria which I think is a lovely name and really suited her - she's eastern European I think. Funny what a difference one vowel can make!

I once temped in a team full of Valeries. I was the only non-Valerie in a team of six. I was also the only person under 45.

campion · 29/12/2008 11:26

I had a friend called Valerie and she hated it. It wasn't a popular name then and it isn't now and I think I can see why. Even worse, her parents had a barmy arrangement where the father got to choose the name if it was a girl, mother if it was a boy. Her mother also didn't like it!

I wish people would remember that they're naming a separate person who has feelings too.

LiffeyeRamhairAnois · 29/12/2008 11:05

Valerie. That's another one that I see coming back within about five years. Not in the top 100! But, there will be people looking for the next Esme Dulcie in five years.

LiffeyeRamhairAnois · 29/12/2008 11:02

MissModular, I like Zelda, despite the DA ending. Some of these middle-aged names like Nancy, Susan, Lois, Belinda, Rosemary and Delia are RIPE for revival imo

The whole Amelia, Emily, Olivia type of super soft feminine sounding name (not to criticise those names specifically) will sound tired soon. Dated even.

Missmodular · 29/12/2008 10:20

Blimey Nappyaddict that is a list and a half! Thanks very much.

Am loving Thora but DP won't hear of it. Am going to mull over Ramona, Stephanie, Emmeline and Luisa as I've not thought of those before.

Thanks again
