Imogen or Ellen? Appointment with registrar is tomorrow.

Have finally convinced DH to change her name and want to do it asap so I can move on and worry about other things! Both of us like either name, Imogen is my first choice (but our surname starts with an 'm'and ends in 'n' therefore bit of a mouthful) and Ellen is his first choice but there are problems as we live in a place were people drop 'h' therefore potential Helen / Ellen confusion.

I like both. I prefer Ellen but it just depends what the sur name is.

Ellen is a beautiful name. It is also a woman's name not just a young girl's name.

hi my name is helen i get called elle,elli,but my grandad always called me ellin for some reason and i liked it ..just call her imogen ellen nihomi {sorry about the spelling} then every one is happy and when she is older she has a choice .

It's Imogen, although they are both lovely names, so no disrespect to any Ellens. The registrar nearly sent me away as I hadn't totally decided . In the end she printed out fake certificates (not on correct paper and of course i didn't keep them) with each combination of names and as soon as I saw them i knew which was right.

ps please don't ask you registrar to do this - i'm sure it's illegal and she just took pity on me because she wasn't busy and i told her if i returned without changing it DH would be very exasperated. I don't want to pour scorn on her previous name, as i don't want to insult people with that name and we have kept it as a middle name at DH's request, but if you are interested it is on the other thread 'has anyone changed their baby's name after it was registered?'

I didn't know Ellie was short for Ellen.

I like Ellen and Imogen, but don't choose Imogen if it doesn't fit with your surname!!! Kids (and parents)can be very cruel and will torment her if she has a mouthful of a name.

i have an ellen now aged 13 - tis true there are a lot of them in her year - not sure it is still as popular for littl ones though as there are none in dd2 year at school (yr2) . my dd is called ellie as
well as ellen but we like both- imogen is a pretty name though too- let us know which you chose.

We have an Imogen - shortened to Mimi - have never regreted our choice but it's definitely getting very popular.

Both names are nice.
I would not shorted Ellen.
I think I slightly prefer Imogen but there is not a lot in it, very slight.

actually DH really wanted sam and ella he thought it was funny . So I suggested Ellen as a compromise on this as I thought Sam n Ella was ridiculous. The midwife who delivered her had a Sam and an Ella but also had a James too.

If you have a Sam, don't call her Ellen.

Sam and Ellen is one step away from Sam and Ella.
