Will my christmas baby hate me if i call him this?

I was due dc4 today and still no sign but the closer it gets to christmas the more my dp is doubting our boys choice of name. It is Christian, which i absolutely adore, but do you think as he gets older people will tease him for being born at christmas and being called Christian? We dont actually know if we are having a boy, but no christmas issues with girls name!

I wouldn't worry even if he makes an appearance on Christmas day. I would never have made the connection if you hadn't.

nappyaddict · 22/12/2008 02:29

I thought you were going to say Gabriel or Emmanuelle.

JodieO · 22/12/2008 01:09

I love that name.

thumbElf · 22/12/2008 01:04

Like most others here, I say why not? It's a nice name (and yes, I also thought it was going to be Noel and would have said NOooooo!) and not automatically associated as being a Christmassy name (which probably says something deep about the way the majority of people think about Christmas)

Good luck anyway!

GloooooooooooooooooooRia · 21/12/2008 23:05

Regardless of when or why, I like Christian more than Christopher (it was a possible here for a while, my name being diminutive -sp?- of Christine), but I would shorten to Christy. I hadn't made then connection to christmas wither.
I used to have a BF whose middle name was Noel (I think his b'day was August).
And found myself pondering over Emmanuel during the christingle earlier today (not that I am having DC4). DS3 (June baby) has a very "seasonal but biblical" name (not Jesus). I wonder if he will oust the girls in that nativity?

bettythebauble · 21/12/2008 22:55

Forgot to say, good luck!!

bettythebauble · 21/12/2008 22:54

I really like the name, and wouldn't associate it specifically with Christmas or with christianity- it's just a name, iyswim!

If he does object in later life, it shortens nicely to Chris.

Mind you, I was due around Christmas a few years ago, and rather liked the idea of Balthazar (blame the hormones ), so don't trust my judgement

I did give birth on Christmas Day, and my 'in labour' shortlist included 'Christmas' for a boy (shortened to Kit)- the midwife said "lets hope it's a girl then"

prettybutterfly · 21/12/2008 22:13

His middle name could be 'Atheist'. Or possibly even 'Satanist'. To even things up, like.

seeker · 21/12/2008 22:10

What grimma said.

GrimmaTheNome · 21/12/2008 21:48

Regardless of when he's born, isn't it a bit of a risky name, in that a child might grow up to have serious philosophical objections to it? [I do actually mean this totally soberly, I'm not taking the piss or trying to be argumentative - its the sort of name that might actually matter to someone]

Lionstar · 21/12/2008 21:40

My uncle is Christian, born on Xmas day

And BIL is Stephen, born on Boxing day

Both unscarred by the association - go for it

LiffeySaysNollaigShona · 21/12/2008 21:39

Ah come on! Even Jesus would work in multi-cultural England, so long as you pronounce it Heyzoos.

seeker · 21/12/2008 21:38

5 presume you are a Christian family?

Might it be awkward if he becomes a committed atheist in later life?

prettybutterfly · 21/12/2008 21:37

Nice name. Robin also great. Noel: liveable with. Frankincense not so good.

DoubleBluff · 21/12/2008 21:35

as long as you don't call him Jesus if he is born on a stabl eon Christms Day

TipsyFairydifferentID · 21/12/2008 21:32

Nicholas is another appropriate name.

LiffeySaysNollaigShona · 21/12/2008 21:28

I like it. Prefer it to Christopher.

Jas · 21/12/2008 20:56

My mums birthday is today,a dn she is called Christine.

I never really made a connection

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 21/12/2008 19:59

I thought you were going to say Noel
But I like that name anyway, and I also like Christian.

MaryBeWaiting · 21/12/2008 19:57

to

MaryBeWaiting · 21/12/2008 19:56

What's wrong with Jesus? My baby is due in 4 days, and I'm going to call him Jesus , because the angel told me too!

PuppyDrunky · 21/12/2008 19:56

Why on earth are people saying: "unless he is born on Christmas Day?" So what if he is born on Christmas Day? Maybe if you were considering calling him Rudolph.

Tis a nice name. I like Emmanuel too.

reban · 21/12/2008 19:52

Thanks all ... i do really love this name so i think my dp has stopped trying to convince me otherwise!

Could be far worse. I knew a girl at school whose first two names were Merry Christmas. Imagine having to go through your whole life having to explain why your name isn't spelt Mary...

Turniphead1 · 20/12/2008 22:59

Reban - I love the name and don't think it is odd having it related to a "sometime around Christmas" birthday. There is always of course Wenceslas...
