Please help with this one!

It was easy with DS1, we both agreed on the name Noah from about 12 weeks pg and both loved the name (although chose not to tell the family until he was born)

This time its so much harder, these are what we have come up with - but none really click iykwim.

Girls
LOLA
MAGGIE
EVIE - though getting too popular
ISABELLE/ISABELLA
MADELEINE

Boys
ISAAC
SAMUEL
VINCE
SETH - but this sounds odd with our surname

Please tell me your HONEST opinions and feel free to add more to the list! I will keep you posted with our opinions

I have a one syllable surname (think similar to boy) and have found that softer sounding names with at least two syllables work best. Personally I wouldn't choose a diminutive for a given name, so although I like Maggie, I would have to have Margaret, Margery, Margarita, Margo or Marjorie for full. Not sure I'd go for any of them though to be honest I also like Sylvie of your girls names, and all your boys names except Caleb - prefer Isaac. We were going to have Ezra if we had had a second boy.

SantaKLAWs · 14/12/2008 23:58

sorry Cheekster, have monopolised your thread rather...

better give you some more name suggestions

Catriona
Erica
Ella
Honor

and perhaps you could check out Celtic name pronounciation here as I can't think of any boy names to suggest.

Apologies for the obvious Celtic leaning

No, SantaKLAWs I didn't know.
Am off to bed now, but will come and say hello soon!

(BTW I assume you are the famous KLAW doula? Have been hearing recommendations for you!)
Lovely to meet you

SantaKLAWs · 14/12/2008 23:42

Delighted, do you know we have a local thread?

delightedoldbag34 · 14/12/2008 23:37

Oooh Oooh, how exciting to find people who live near me!
[waves] Hello!
(sorry to hijak thread)
My DD1 is going to Beauty and the Beast tomorrow with her school (at the Rep) and I was meant to take her to Camperdown with a friend to see Santa today but she wasn't well
Might do Glamis next week instead, have heard it's good.

Er sorry, just got excited there!

About your names, I haven't read the whole thread but for a girl I love Isabella and we had picked Annabel/Annabella for a girl this time. Both sound good with a short surname I think. For a boy I also love Ruaridh, also like Samuel from your initial list.

SantaKLAWs · 14/12/2008 23:35

I plan to go Sunday too, that's why I aksed you what time, we could meet up. Last year DD was totally cool with the man and I also got her face painted in the gift shop. Queue didn't take that long, it wasnt hugely busy and the grotto was beautiful. Santa apparently arrives at 1pm. but I missed that bit so maybe it's busier then. Maye I should plan to go for that so that it's more of an occasion

dizzyjingles · 14/12/2008 23:28

we're going on sunday, I think I'm more excited than the girls are

SantaKLAWs · 14/12/2008 23:26

I'm taking her to Glamis

dizzyjingles · 14/12/2008 23:09

Klaw where are you taking DD? We took them to the botanical gardens last year and that was great, it was in the wee hut and all done up like a grotto, she loved it

SantaKLAWs · 14/12/2008 23:07

cheekster, i took dd last year at 2.5, so this year she will be 3.5.

Last year she gave Santa/Father christmas a hug! She's a very huggy child so I'm sure it made his day!

dizzyjingles · 14/12/2008 23:07

DD1 is 5yrs old and this is the first time she's looked forward to it as she's old enough to understand what it means

she enjoyed last year but was a bit shy still and only came round as he was a nice bloke to chat to

taking DD2 who is only 2.7yrs so not expecting great things but will let her see him anyway

DD3 is only 18wks so doubt she'll care either way

Cheekster · 14/12/2008 23:07

SantaKlaws Im with you with Cameron being too popular, it used to be a fav for me.

How do you pronounce Rhuaridh?

OP posts:
SantaKLAWs · 14/12/2008 23:05

Ohhh Dizzy what time you going to Glamis? I'm taking dd, we could meet up, see you Thursday to discuss more?

Cheekster · 14/12/2008 23:04

Dont worry, loving the banter!

On the subject of Santa, when would you take your dc to see Santa - I mean at what age?

When would be too old/ young?

Thinking about taking ds and his cousins, but they range from 5 months to 11 years?

SantaKLAWs · 14/12/2008 23:04

Freya would be my second choice for hypothetical dd.

Know an Honor who is absolutely LOVELY so would definitely consider it but it won't go with dp surname....

used to like Cameron for a boy, Cammie for short, but it's far too popular now. Quite like Ruaridh too, but again am worried that it's quite popular. Other than that there are no boys names I like. Between you and me, Rhuaridh is my secret favourite. Don't tell anyone

dizzyjingles · 14/12/2008 23:01

we're taking them to see Santa at Glamis Castle on Sun and to Beauty and the beast on Sat so looking forward to that - DH has managed to get christmas day off too

Cheekster · 14/12/2008 22:55

Ooooh Evelyn! Thats lovely!

Might just have to add it to my shortlist!

to mean Sylvia

Right start again this is my shortlist

girls
MAGGIE
THEA
FREYA
LILA/LOLA
SYLVIE
EVELYN

boys
SAMUEL
REUBEN
JOSEPH
CALEB

Which are your favourites?

OP posts:
Nancy66 · 14/12/2008 22:55

My favourites would be Maggie and Sylvie

and Rueben and Joseph

Freya is a bit drippy (only in my opinion of course) and Lila/Lola are becoming very popular thanks the Kate Moss, Madonna, Sara Cox etc who all called their kids one or the other.

I like Cal but not Caleb
