Yeah, so, 20 weeks scan today, and it's a dudette.
We had Astrid picked out from last time (but had a boy), and were so keen, it wasn't up for debate this time.
The only thing we had to decide was a middle name, and we're keen on Ursula. Double-barrelled surname, 1st half scando, 2nd half welsh.
Opinions if you please. Many thanks.

baby123 not a fan of Women in Love i take it?

llareggub · 27/11/2008 17:19

I don't think it matters that they don't "go" together. How often are the names said together anyway?

MKG · 27/11/2008 17:11

Astrid Marie?

Love Astrid BTW

EachPeachPearMum · 27/11/2008 16:31

Astrid Margot
Astrid Greta
Astrid Inga
Astrid Ilsa
Astrid Annika
Astrid Cecilia
Astrid Elise
Astrid Lucia
Astrid Hanna
Astrid Eleanor
Astrid Madeleine
Astrid Charlotte

To be honest, I'd go for something really ordinary, but quite feminine- Astrid is a very strong name, quite unusual in UK and she may wish to use her middle name when she's older (that was our reasoning anyway )

minouminou · 27/11/2008 14:27

thanks for the suggestions of welsh names, but i'm not a huge fan, and neither is DP
his surname is welsh, but not in-yer-face welsh, IYSWIM, and he's actually from hampshire.
ursula's on the back burner for now, and we'll have a rethink
i do like it, though

Congratulations on your wee girl.

I like both names although I think that they are a bit of a mouthful together. I love Urban, btw.

Sorry, but having a SOH failure, your joke about Bader-Meinhof chic is slightly offensive.

rosealbie · 27/11/2008 12:48

Really like Astrid but not keen on Ursula

How about Eleri as a middle name?

EachPeachPearMum · 27/11/2008 12:43

Babybaby123- yeah- my Astrid is ugly as sin- check my profile

BabyBaby123 · 27/11/2008 12:07

don't like either of them, both ugly names imo

brimfull · 27/11/2008 11:55

nope don't like either

cyteen · 27/11/2008 11:54

i love astrid, not so keen on ursula. like the idea of a welsh middle name - there are lots of lovely choices there.

congrats btw

littlelyn · 27/11/2008 11:51

Depends on how many syllables in your surname. If that has 2+ syllables then the middle name should ideally have 1 and I agree, it needs to have a story behind it as children love to know their name has a special meaning within the family. Personally I'm not keen on Ursula - it's the name of the wicked queen in Disney's Mermaid film and Disney is a stayer!!

TheBlonde · 27/11/2008 11:51

I like it

girlandboy · 27/11/2008 11:44

I've always liked Astrid, and went to school with an Ursula. Lovely.

Wasn't Kylie Minogue's character in Doctor Who named Astrid?! Because it was an anagram of TARDIS!!

belgo · 27/11/2008 11:44

I love Ursula, why not that as a first name?

largeginandtonic · 27/11/2008 11:42

Love Astrid

Not so keen on Ursula, too much of a mouth full.

I use middle names when cross with them, it brings home the mum is mad message and they know

glasgowstyle · 27/11/2008 11:40

Lovely names

LuLuBai · 27/11/2008 11:39

I like Astrid Ursula. I actually think they do work together. And I think it works with your DS's name too. Go for it.

(Irrelevant, but my friend always pretends her middle name is Ursula, if asked, as she hates her real one.)

EachPeachPearMum · 27/11/2008 11:20

What about something Welsh for middle name?
There are lots of beautiful Welsh girls names.
Astrid is of course perfect

NotanOtter · 27/11/2008 00:05

yorkshire - they're proper posh

minouminou · 26/11/2008 23:47

Oh....where?
We had so much flak over it, it feels like any other Urbans are reinforcement troops!

electra · 26/11/2008 23:43

minouminou · 26/11/2008 23:43

Right, the combo is getting mixed reviews....may be worth sitting on a while longer, then.
