Honest opinions on Dexter

I have a girls name list of about 20 but have really struggled with boys names.

I found Dexter in a baby name book and think I love it! Full middle name would be James.

DH thinks he likes it but is not sure. Its quite different and other names we are considering are much more popular - Harry etc.

Honestly what do you think of Dexter James?

NoBiggy · 28/11/2008 22:24

Yes, fab.

But if he turns out to be left handed you must change his name to Sinister.

chloemegjess · 28/11/2008 22:21

I like it.

I mean 'cool' as in 'trendy' BTW not 'cold'.

hannahlouhoo · 24/11/2008 22:09

Love dexter please call you child that if it is a boy! my dp would not let me have it!!

frazzledoldbag34 · 24/11/2008 22:08

Sorry but I think of it as a being a bit 'cool'.
Therefore wouldn't personally go there, but if you love it, just use it!

controlfreakyagain · 24/11/2008 22:01

it's like tyler.... take that how you please!

fruitstick · 24/11/2008 21:55

is a lovely name but for some unknown reason reminds me of a Jack Russell

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 24/11/2008 21:48

Me and My dh have had this conversation already. We like the name but we also watched and like the TV series. Anyway, Dexter may be the Bay Harbor Butcher but he only kills bad people.

RachieB · 24/11/2008 21:43

hmm i dont hate it, but dont love it either

it does go nicely with James

jumpyjan · 24/11/2008 21:03

Enchanted - your son is beautiful! What a cutie.

You are obviously a fan of the name then!

It really is

So obviously I think its a fab name!

We call him DJ and Dexxy.

my lovely Dexxy

Ronaldinhio · 24/11/2008 20:53

nice name for a shaggy dog

with interesting eyebrows

jumpyjan · 24/11/2008 20:52

...interesting - it seems most of you like it!

I hadn't heard of the tv series until I googled the name earlier so don't think I will worry about that one.

I also don't know anyone called Dexter yet so that appeals although it may become more popular.

Loler - I also think of Dexter cows but thats because I live in the country! They are lovely cute little cows too though arnt they!

I still think I really like it but not sure what the family will think.

grumpalina · 24/11/2008 20:46

Love it. Love it. Love it. Wanted it for DS2 but was vetoed by DP. DS would really have suited it as well!

I really like it but wouldn't be brave enough to use it.

I have never heard of the tv programme, by the time he gets to be of an age where he/his friends will know about that sort of programme will be long gone!

I just think of press gang too - not a bad thing. And dexter cows (a breed) but I hang around farms too much!

luckywinner · 24/11/2008 20:34

I think its a completely fabulous name.

hecate · 24/11/2008 20:34

it's ok, but I instantly think of the series. I also think there will be a gazillion of them, since many people choose names from tv.

Umlellala · 24/11/2008 20:32

Love it. Was dd's 'boy' name...
