It sounds pretty and it means 'pretty'

but will people think 'Angelina' straight away?

I'm just trying to sort out another list to show DH

And what if she turns out not to be pretty? She will hate you forever.

ghosty · 14/11/2008 21:33

Everyone will call her Jolly.
Don't do it. Please.

artichokes · 14/11/2008 21:27

If I met baby Jolie I would immediatley assume her parents were big fans of Angelina.

Joely is better and sounds similar. I suppose some might assume you are a big Joely Richardson fan - but that seems less likely .

janeite · 14/11/2008 21:21

Julia is lovely; Juliet is lovely. Jolie is not lovely; neither is Jolene. And sorry Fimbo but Ju-leigh is beyond awful!

clairebear88 · 14/11/2008 21:16

Hi

My good friends name is Jolie she is in her 30s and is not french. Mind you she does have an unusual foreign middle name too so maybe her parents had links along the way.
I always liked her name and did not know it meant pretty, i like it even more now.

Go for it

alarkaspree · 14/11/2008 17:25

People won't know how to pronounce it. Call her Julia.

onthewarpath · 14/11/2008 17:22

Balloonslayer, I have never heard that expression.

Tinasan · 14/11/2008 13:30

Have lived in France for a long time and have never heard of anybody called Jolie, I really don't think it is a name as such! What would you think if you met a person called Pretty? (Not slating your choice btw, just trying to play devil's advocate)...

NomDePlume · 14/11/2008 12:58

Jolie is naff.

It will date badly.

Fimbo · 14/11/2008 12:54

Yes Jolene is such a karaoke name

nailpolish · 14/11/2008 12:54

oh no my name is dull

nailpolish · 14/11/2008 12:52

Fimbo · 14/11/2008 12:52

There is a Jolene thread today!

I meant your rl first name. I always wanted to be called that. My mother regrets her choice of name for me. (as do I). You can imagine they way Dundee folk say it!

MrsBadger · 14/11/2008 12:51

naily this thread was spawned from another where the OP suggested Joeleen and we all went 'Noooooo!'

EachPeachPearMum · 14/11/2008 12:50

Joely
Jaolithe

nailpolish · 14/11/2008 12:50

waht about Joleen

i know a girl called that but its very difficult not to burst into song when i say her name ala dolly parton

nailpolish · 14/11/2008 12:49

waht do you mean fimbs?

(your name was on our list too btw!)

ruty · 14/11/2008 12:49

i love Chloe. Unfortunately my parents had a mad boss eyed bearded collie called that so it was out for my dd.

BalloonSlayer · 14/11/2008 12:49

On the upside, OP, by the time your DD is grown up no one will probably even have heard of Angelina.

TheMadHouse · 14/11/2008 12:48

There is a Joley in DS1's class at preschool. The name really suits her as she is blond with ringlets

Fimbo · 14/11/2008 12:48

I wanted to be NP's first name.

ruty · 14/11/2008 12:48

i think it's her mother's name.

MrsBadger · 14/11/2008 12:48

NB for similar sounds consider

Zoe (can't get the diaresis on this keyboard )

Chloe

BalloonSlayer · 14/11/2008 12:47

I always wanted to be called Julie.

nailpolish · 14/11/2008 12:47

Julie was on our baby names list actually
i really like it
