After 'im indoors wrinkling his nose up at so many girls names I've suggested, we finally have a few we both like on the shortlist! Would you mind taking a sec please to reply with the one you like best?
(Would be good if we could set up our own polls on here - if someone knows how lemme know!)
Thanks lots!

Evie

Mabel

Lila

Isabel

Love Mabel, and quite like Lila.

The other two are very popular in my area, so be prepared to have a few of the same name in her nursery/school.

Have you seen the film Bridge to Terabithia? The little sister is called Maybelle, (as opposed to May-bul), and I think that is beautiful.

This is adding a new category to MN name verdicts. So far we have

trying-too-hard
too common (ie frequently-used)
poncetastic
chavtastic (I know, I know but people do use these verdicts)
old lady
only suitable for babies and children

and now

strumpet

VerifiedLU4097 · 11/11/2008 14:24

Tell you whats nice is the Americanisation of Mabel- Maybell. It's good for shortening and I think it looks prettier than Mabel.

Isabel is pretty
Lila is Kate Moss's daughter
Evie I always want to say with a Scottish accent reminiscent of that dresser in Ugly Betty- not that thats a bad thing.

MmeLindt · 11/11/2008 14:21

Isabel

denbury · 11/11/2008 14:21

Isabel

Lotster · 11/11/2008 14:20

so at least in the densely populated under fives area I live she'd be a bit different...

Lila

I really do like diminutives as they give me more control on what she actually gets called!

Mabel seems to be the Marmite of the names To shorten it I'm not sure, possible May? Husband so not sure of it as it's an old lady's name, but it comes from the meanings "lovely" or "my beautiful" in old french which is really sweet. It died out in the forties, so at leaving in the densely populated under fives area I live she'd be a bit different...

Evie I liked when pregnant with my two year old boy, and know see what seemed original then isn't so now...

Lila I love, from a book hubby gave me 10 years ago, but don't want to look like I'm copying Kate Moss! Plus by the time my girl is older, will KM's daughter be a strumpet all over the papers like Peaches Geldof??

And Isabel, is such a lovely name, but just the least unusual...

I'll continue to agonise and tot up the scores!

  1. Lila
CatchaStar · 11/11/2008 14:01

Dd was nearly a Lila, so I like that a lot. However I love Isabel.

LuLuBai · 11/11/2008 13:58

Evie and Isabel both very, very popular round here, so would avoid personally.
Like Lilia, but not Lila. Mabel's OK - how would you shorten it?
