Really like 'ia' ending names for DD as I think they sound feminine. Can you put a comment next to each, I don't want anything too popular, including any potential nicknames, but as it's my first, I don't know what is. I know different names sounds better depending on where you live, I'm in SW London. Thanks!

Sophia
Olivia
Alicia
Natalia
Claudia

It seems that Sophia and Olivia are very popular at the moment. I know it shouldn't but I think it would bother me if there were too many others at DD's nursery or school, as my name was very popular when I was at school and I didn't like that.

Wow lots of replies! Thanks ladies, it's such a great help in deciding.

Tigerschick - yes I did think of Amelia or Emilia, but I think if we did choose one, people would always spell it the other way.

wotulookinat · 10/10/2008 13:52

Sophia 7/10 (I would prefer Sophie)
Olivia 8/10 (under-used these days - a nice name)
Alicia 3/10 (I think it's a bit pretentious)
Natalia 7/10 (but prefer Natalie)
Claudia 2/10 (harsh sounding)

Sophia: beautiful but too popular: 6
Olivia: 5
Alicia: 4
Natalia: it's the name of my favourite writer and it is beautiful: 8 (what would the English pronounciation be?)
Claudia: 7

jellybeans · 10/10/2008 13:33

Sophia...8/10 like, prefer Sophie though
Olivia...7/10...like but VERY popular here
Alicia....6/10....OK
Natalia...Don't like 1/10
Claudia ...1/10 also don't like

CoteDAzur · 10/10/2008 12:02

Sophia & Olivia 5 (pretty names but extremely popular these days and will surely mark these girls as produce of late 2000s.)

Alicia 6 (OK, but not terribly interesting)

Natalia 7 (nice)

Claudia 8 (very pretty)

pinktimesone · 10/10/2008 11:56

Thanks so much the replies! Of the new name suggestions, I'm not keen on one of them and the other two are friends names so wouldn't use.

I think Alicia is out because of the so many ways that it can be pronounced.

More comments please, it's very helpful!

Love:
Sophia 9
Olivia 9

Like:
Alicia 7

Dislike:
Natalia 2
Claudia 2

scarletlilybug · 10/10/2008 11:04

Maybe it depends where you live, but Olivia and Claudia are pretty popular in my rae atm.

If you call her Alicia, you might well find she's always being called "Aleesha" (not the ee-a sound on the end in what I mean).

Prefer Sophia of the last two although Natalia is ok.

Another vote here for Julia.
Or Georgia (although I guess that's another popular one at the moment)?
Or Victoria?

Wavedancer · 10/10/2008 10:58

I'm in SW London too.

Sophia - 9/10 - love this name, it would have been our first choice if we were having a girl
Olivia - 6/10 - pretty name but very popular, I believe
Alicia / Natalia - 3/10 - don't know why, but these 2 sound a bit 'snobby' to me
Claudia - 2/10 - just don't like this one, sorry

Overmydeadbody · 10/10/2008 10:49

Sophia 10
Olivia 9
Alicia 2
Natalia 4
Claudia 8

BlackEyedDog · 10/10/2008 10:46

out of these Claudia is my favorite 9/10

otherwise I love and prefer to the ia's

Sophie
Olive
Alice
Natalie

berolina · 10/10/2008 10:45

Sophia and Natalia - 9. ds1 would have been Sophia had he been a girl. Natalia especially lovely if she is due around Christmas time.

Olivia, Alicia and Claudia - 7. Olivia is very popular. The sudden apparent popularity of Claudia confounds me - over here in Germany it's still seen as a very 60s/70s name.

seeker · 10/10/2008 10:39

Like them all except Natalia. Be careful with Alicia - it's a lovely name, but the pronounciation seems to be slipping twards Aleesha - which I think (sorry) is horrid!
