Really like 'ia' ending names for DD as I think they sound feminine. Can you put a comment next to each, I don't want anything too popular, including any potential nicknames, but as it's my first, I don't know what is. I know different names sounds better depending on where you live, I'm in SW London. Thanks!

Sophia
Olivia
Alicia
Natalia
Claudia

I like Olivia and Natalia best, although Olivia is very popular but I think it has "staying power". Claudia ok but reminds me of Winkleman. Sophia and Alicia are becoming very popular and I think are in danger of becoming the Sharon and Tracys of their day.
Sorry don't wish to offend anyone.

Sophia - 4 - bit poncy
Olivia - 5 - nice but not my thing
Alicia - 6 - nice but a bit common atm and lots pronounce it wrong
Natalia - 4 - sounds like you're trying to sound eastern european.... like calling a boy andre or mikheal
Claudia - 3 - don't like it much at all... very clumpy and frumpy sounding

44christmaspuddingsinarow · 11/10/2008 16:44

Lmccrean · 11/10/2008 14:13

Sophia and Olivia - 10 (and are on my list!)
Alicia, Natalia - 9
Claudia - 7

belgo · 11/10/2008 13:51

Sophia 7 - very pretty but becoming popular
Olivia 4 - just don't like it and way too popular
Alicia - 6
Natalia -6
Claudia -8 always been a favourite of mine.

pinktimesone · 11/10/2008 13:45

It seems that Sophia and Olivia are very popular at the moment so we've decided to rule them out and will choose either Claudia or Natalia. We'll see what DD looks like when she's born. I know there were a few negatives on these two names but that makes me like them even more for some strange reason!

Thanks so much for all the replies.

nappyaddict · 10/10/2008 22:31

I pronounce Alicia - A-liss-ee-a

Candlewax · 10/10/2008 22:30

Oh I love Olivia and Alicia. My dd has friends with these names and they are lovely girls. So 5/5 for those two.

Cappuccino · 10/10/2008 22:29

obv I can't comment as I live too far away

had it crossed your mind that your daughter might one day move house?

nappyaddict · 10/10/2008 22:28

I don't like Olivia - every other girl by me is called this but i love the others. especially natalia and claudia.

singersgirl · 10/10/2008 22:27

OK, my order of preference:

Claudia (I really liked this for a potential daughter)

Alicia, Olivia, Sophia - all kind of the same but in roughly that order.

Natalia: I don't know why, but I really don't like this name.

strawberrycornetto · 10/10/2008 22:18

Sophia - 8
Olivia - 6 (like it lots but quite popular
Alicia - 6
Natalia - 6 (likely to be nat which I don't think is so feminine)
Claudia - 8

Quite like them all but Claudia is the least common ime (used to live in SW London when DD was born, now in SE)

mrsfossil · 10/10/2008 22:15

all very pretty although not as keen on claudia.

ScareyBitchFeast · 10/10/2008 22:01

how about victoria?
excpet you are in danger of having a vicky

ScareyBitchFeast · 10/10/2008 22:00

dont like anastasia
like natalia, a song by van morrison, na na na na natalia.

biased towards claudia - so you cant have that.
biased against olivia,
how do you pronounce sophia, like an ear or a fire? dont like the fire version
not so keen on alicia.
like lydia

pooka · 10/10/2008 21:55

See, in Olivia's favour (to me) is the fact that it can be shortened in different ways. So I know a Livvy and a Liv (but they are both also known as Olivia).

Another "ia" name that is lovely is Lydia. And only know two (one 7 yr old and 1 5 yr old) in my neck of the woods.

pinktimesone · 10/10/2008 20:54

LynetteScavo and pooka, thanks for the new name suggestions. I don't particularly dislike any of them but don't like them enough to add to my list.

Alicia is definitely off my list now, I still really like the other 4, even though I see they're not all to everyone's liking!

artichokes - thanks for your comments. I'm not a big fan of shortening names but understand that names do get shortened, especially at school, so that's something I need to consider on all the names.

pooka · 10/10/2008 19:43

What about Lucia (as in "Lu-chee-a"
I like Octavia as well.

artichokes · 10/10/2008 19:35

Sophia - 9/10 (popular at the moment but not too common, on our list)
Olivia - 6/10 (I don't like Liv or Livvy so it would not work for me. Its in the top 3 at the mo).
Alicia 2/10 (just don't like it)
Natalia 6/10 (pretty, very Russian sounding)
Claudia 7/10 (pretty, but don't like Claude as a nn.

BabyBaby123 · 10/10/2008 19:23

out of your names I'd go for Olivia or Sophia - not sure about marks out of 10, maybe 6 or 7 for both

LynetteScavo · 10/10/2008 19:12

Have you thought of;

Anastasia

Saskia

Ophelia

LynetteScavo · 10/10/2008 19:09

Sophia 8.5
Olivia 6
Alicia 5
Natalia 7 or 9 for a Christmas baby
Claudia 9.5 It was the meaning which stopped me naming DD Claudia.

AbbeyA · 10/10/2008 19:06

Sophia 7/10
Olivia 6/10
Rest 3/10
