My 4th girl is due very soon and I love this name. Rude extended family say they have never heard of it and have laughed. Opinions please!

pretty name. very popular round here. DP cant understand why so popular as he feels that he would never name his DD after someone who basically slept with dwarves to get a pretty necklace - the whore!

peco · 09/11/2008 20:22

Very popular. At least two in every toddler group I've been to.

Tortington · 07/11/2008 08:54

common

clairebear88 · 07/11/2008 08:50

gorgeous pretty name and was on my list but a friend and a cousin got there first
Popular just means nice anyway so go for it

Lilyloo · 06/11/2008 21:43

pluto · 04/11/2008 21:11

Frieda is better than Freya.

eekamoose · 01/11/2008 16:59

Wishy-washy. Sorry, if that's rude, just mho. Also quite a few of them around.

It does sound like a name. It is a Nordic name, like it or not.

stayinbed · 01/11/2008 16:39

i think its awful it doesn't sound like a name. it sounds like the word 'fray' with an 'a' at the end

our good friends have the surname 'Frey' and for years (before i heard the name Freya) i thought this was a very strange sounding name

but my advice is, pay no attention to the relatives or what other people think

Technoprisoners · 01/11/2008 16:36

Is also spelled Freja - perhaps more unusual?

I think Freya is a lovely name. I dont think it is that uncommon, your family may not have heard of it before, but I think there are a few Freyas about.

parachutes · 01/11/2008 14:18

Love it. The only Freya I knew (daughter of a friend) was a joy and absolutely beautiful!

Miyazaki · 01/11/2008 14:18

I like it, it is definitely on the rise, if that matters to you.

MingMingtheWonderPet · 01/11/2008 14:17

Freya is great! (I have a 3yo Freya, and she's the only one I know)

Slight hijack - Pidge, didn't realise you were so close to your third. Good lucck x

RachieB · 01/11/2008 14:15

I like it
dont know of any little girls with that name here

4inthebed · 01/11/2008 13:25

My freinds litle girl (8yo) is called Freya and she is a delight to be around and the name always makes me think of her and smile, but it is extremly popular around here now too.

But that said if you like it go for it, when we called our youngest Reuben half of the family were not impressed now (at 5.5months) they couldnt imagine him being anything else!!

It's lovely. I've heard on MN it's gettiing popular, but I only know one - she's 9.

And don't listen to Anna8888

I too would love to know what your other girls are called.

It was on our list if we had a girl (we didn't) but I didn't realise it was popular now. I haven't heard of any round here.

I agree - never tell RL people the name you have chosen. People think nothing of being rude about an idea of a name but would usually hold back if they met a real person with that name.

PootleAndThePoseysMum · 01/11/2008 13:11

I love the name Freya, very pretty name.

jojo2008 · 01/11/2008 13:09

I love Feya but have been put off by its popularity ( I am a primary teacher and there seems to be one or two Freyas starting in reception each year now). Also, someone said it's becomming a bit chav ( I disagree). I think it's best just to decide on something and not tell anyone you know ( that's why discussing it on here is so good!) as someone will always put you off!!
