Am having a girl!

loobylu3 · 30/09/2008 13:21

Have just had my 20 weeks scan which confirmed (much to my surprise) that we are having a girl.
We already have:

DD Maia (pn My-a)
DS Lucas

The girls names currently on my shortlist are:

Eliza
Cecily
Livia (this isn't just a contraction of Olivia but a name in its own right!)
Claudia
Matilda

What do you think of these?

We are looking for something that is not too popular. Although I tend to like traditional names DH prefers v unusual. He is also non British and of Asian descent so any Asian/ slightly multicultural suggestions welcomed or any more British ones too!

Many thx

I don't really like Cecily but I like all of you others. I don't think I would have a Maia and a Matilda though.

Neela
Harriet
Sadie

Maybe more one for your DH and it may be odd (my view is affected by my lovely friend by the name) but Mauana is (so I'm told) Tahitian for Ocean.

frazzledoldbag34 · 02/10/2008 20:55

Blimey - can't believe it's that high up the list!
I still like it too.
Thanks for the link by the way.

CONGRATULATIONS

You have reminded me of the joy and excitement i felt when we found out we were having a girl too. It's so lovely to know!

loobylu3 · 02/10/2008 20:52

Thank you frazzle. Here is a link to the stats:

www.statistics.gov.uk/specials/babiesnames_girls.asp

Scarlett is no. 39 so it is definitely more popular than the other names on my list anyway. Still like it though!

I too am oop north and only know of one little Scarlett. I think it's a gorgeous name. I couldn't see it getting overly popular I don't think. Hmm [adds to own list for DC3!]
If you're worried about popularity do a check on the stats for last year and year before . In fact if I've time I'll even do it for you and report back.

Would be grateful for any more opinions if any body else has one!!

Thx

Thanks for that skidaddle!

skidaddle · 01/10/2008 14:01

loobyloo - all the scarletts I kow are under 2 so I think it will become very popular - I am oop north btw so maybe it is more popular up here

loobylu3 · 01/10/2008 12:49

Gosh- didn't know Scarlett was popular! I've never met anyone with this name. I thought it was a bit unusual. I guess different names are popular in different areas of the country but probably all the trends start in London and take a while to filter down hear!

I know loads of scarletts so i think it must be getting really popular

love Eliza, but all nice!

sleepyhead3 · 01/10/2008 12:26

I like all your names actually. Eliza would probably be my favourite but you can't go wrong really!

loobylu3 · 30/09/2008 20:17

Tilly Scouts mum- we seem to have v similar taste in girl's names.
There are so many beautiful girl's names and I personally feel that I can be a bit more adventurous with a girl's name if you know what I mean!
Now it's just a question of persuading DH to agree to one of them!!

MerryMarigold · 30/09/2008 20:03

I love Cecily and quite like Livia (altho the poor child will be forever being called Olivia, I'm afraid).

TillyScoutsmum · 30/09/2008 20:02

and in English .... Haven't yet met another with either name...

funkydude · 30/09/2008 20:01

Talia

TillyScoutsmum · 30/09/2008 20:01

I have a Matilda (so has my dog ) and a Scarlett. Haven't yet many another of either name

Claudia is top of my list if there is a dd3. Eliza is very pretty as well. Phoebe is pretty but will forever have Friends connotations for me

cyteen · 30/09/2008 19:58

Eliza is my favourite from your (very nice) list, but maybe another 'a' name might be a bit samey with Maia?

Tortington · 30/09/2008 19:58

i love cecily

everyone and his dog is called mathilda

loobylu3 · 30/09/2008 19:56

I agree about Matilda. I thought of using it 4 years ago when I was pregnany with my son bu it has become so popular since then that it is now lower down my list!

misdee · 30/09/2008 19:53

matilda is getting v popular atm.

i have 3 dd's already,

Nicole
Lauren
Serena.

And 4th dd on the way. am a bit stuck for namesmyself. keep changing my mind lol.

ScummyMummy · 30/09/2008 19:52

Eliza is a lovely name.

frazzledoldbag34 · 30/09/2008 19:51

Congrats on the baby girl! How lovely.
All your names are fab, in fact several are on my list too! MY DD2 was Claudia until she was born then didn't suit it and we chose something else. If this next one is a girl I'll probably use it this time............
The only one I'm not keen on is Matilda (nothing wrong with it but just a bit popular at the mo I think). Wouldn't have thought of Livia but I do like it lots

Good luck

loobylu3 · 30/09/2008 18:52

Any Ops on Phoebe and Scarlett also?
