Is Araminta too posh?

Sorry to those to those who don't like the posh/chav threads, but I really need to know honestly.
Araminta has been tentatively on my list for a while now, surely in this day and age it is safe for non upper class people to use?
would appreciate your thoughts.

It was the name my Granny gave to the "ghost" or whatever used to open cupboard doors in the kitchen. If you have reservations, don't do it.

I like it. The only one we know though is called Minty and we see her riding at pony shows.

My DH has never heard of the name Araminta. He thought you were naming your child after Alan Minter (a boxer from the 1970s).

It is very posh. (I'm common.) She would get beaten up if you live in Wales, Carlottawales

LOL though at the 'is it safe for non upper class people to use'. I had visions of toffs attacking you in full hunting gear for stealing one of theirs!

Wow, a very different name (well I personally don't know any but there is a "Minty" charcater in a book I have read. )Sorry can't remember which one, but the character was very posh-could have been a Louise Bagshaw novel.

i think it is lovely and quite posh but hey what exactly is wrong with that my daughter is calle dthe other name that is ocming up alot on this thread and i often get comment sbaout it being a posh name and i usually say " ...and" and leave a pause and people shut up

No don't like it, I worked with one who went by the name of Minty she wasn't that posh though! I find the name quite harsh and I detest Minty for short.

As a name it is (I think) very pretty. Unfortunately, though, it has become a sort of shorthand in the media for Sloane-Ranger-who-works-in-a-Bond-Street-gallery-and-whose-parents-own-half of-Gloucestershire.

It is like a parody of a posh name, so it has a kind of posh-comedy factor about it, which to me, makes it an utterly ludicrous choice. When I read this thread back, no doubt there'll be a mum of an Araminta on it!

Minty is disgusting and reminds me of that fat loser from Eastenders.

Arabella is alright. Prefer Annabella or Allegra

Minty is the fat bloke in Eastenders too. Do you think his full name is Araminta? Or is it because his surname is 'Fox' or 'Trebor' or something?

I somehow can't see him prancing around on a pony

Not keen on Araminta and Minty just makes me think "toothpaste" - sorry. Arabella and Ariella both much nicer IMHO.

Just looked it up- "If I remember correctly". Fancy having an acroynm (sp?) for "If I remember correctly"! How bloody useful. How absolutely spiffing in fact!

Aha! My mistake. Never heard of Araminta Spook and don't know what IIRC stands for! Anyway, it doesn't have to be posh calling her Araminta; could just be Post Modern Ironic

Lovely name! I can't stand all this class obsession the British have; sod it- go with a name if you like it. Was it the name of the little girl in "The Borrowers" kids books or something? It rings a bell with me. Very lovely name and Minty is a very cool nickname.

I suppose it is a bit posh, but let's face it if it's a toss up between Araminta and Paige-Chardonnay it's a no brainer, oui?
