Violet , Greta, Clemmie or Romilly?

We have two girls already, and are struggling for a name for DC3 if a girl...

What do you think of these names? Any preferences? We're stuck.

Greta would be short for Marguerite.
Clemmie for Clementine, of course!
Violet as I love flower names.
Romilly - perhaps Lily for short.

Our possible middle names are Emmeline, Claudia and Ottilie.

Obviously Clementine Emmeline is one to avoid

DD1 one cries whenever we says the baby will have one of these names - she wants to call it Leaf Pie

I think my hypothetical DD2 is called Clementine Alice...

BonsoirAnna · 24/01/2009 12:05

Clementine/Clemmie DEFINITELY. Fabulous name.

Ronaldinhio · 24/01/2009 12:03

clemmie and romilly are lovely

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 24/01/2009 12:00

I like Greta the best.

Nancy66 · 24/01/2009 11:42

I love all your choices. Think they're all lovely names: classic and feminine and different enought but not daft.

I think Violet is probably my favourite followed by Clemintine. Romilly would be my least favourite as it's a bit masculine sounding.

mrsseanbean · 24/01/2009 09:32

They're all very pretty names. As are the middle names. Clementine is my favoruite I think.

ZZZen · 24/01/2009 09:30

Of those I only like Violet

TheStatueOfLiffey · 24/01/2009 09:29

Instead of Clementine what about Christabel? It's less whiney but has the same Victorian crispness (iywim)

Hazel is another lovely suggestion from somebody else.

TheStatueOfLiffey · 24/01/2009 09:24

I like your taste..

Greta - love this but I don't like Marguerite. I'd use Margaret on the bc. Margot, Maggie and Greta are all lovely.

Clemmie / Clementine - I like the style of it, and I would expect the mother of a Clementine to have good taste, generally, but yet, I just don't like the sound of this name!
Violet - I like this, it's the grown up flower name. Villy for short?
Romilly - I love this, despite Romilly Street!! It's unusual, but at the same time, it's very 'of the moment' and it is very close to Emily with an R at the start. I still like it though.

I'd go for Margaret/Greta first choice
Violet second, nn Villy
Romilly no nick name in 3rd.

bixley · 24/01/2009 08:43

Violet Emmeline is lovely.

Mammina · 23/01/2009 22:54

Greta's my favourite but do like your other choices too

QueenofAllWildThings · 23/01/2009 22:40

I know a Romilly and her family call her 'Pom' for a nickname . Very sweet! What did you decide?

blinks · 01/10/2008 00:18

prefer Emme to Emmeline, or Esme

ithinkimtallandblonde · 01/10/2008 00:05

romilly or violet are lovely, i love emmeline too.

nowwearefour · 30/09/2008 17:37

violet and clemmie are names i would happily choose for my own children i think are just lovely

fizzpops · 30/09/2008 17:34

I love Romilly too. Am keeping it in reserve for next time in case I have another girl but I think DH might not go along with my plans. He likes more 'ordinary' names.

Clemency is very pretty too!

Middle name wise not sure any of them go with Romilly - maybe needs fewer syllables? Guess it also depends on your surname too, how well the whole thing flows.

Minkus · 29/09/2008 22:37

I had both Violet (shortened to Lettie maybe?) and Greta on my shortlist for ds2 if he was a girl so think they are wonderful. DS1 wanted to call him broccoli if he was a girl as he wanted a brother(he hates broccoli)

rosealbie · 29/09/2008 22:35

Roam-y not Rom-i!

rosealbie · 29/09/2008 22:32

Romilly is lovely, Romy for short

Coastal · 29/09/2008 22:31

Violet is a lovely name.

kerala · 29/09/2008 21:36

Coco - how weird we totally have the same taste in names. Most of yours, with the exception of Romilly, are on my list. We are (currently though I keep losing my nerve) going for Clementine, middle name Mary. Not sure if I am brave enough though...

mumnosbest · 24/09/2008 23:07

Violet's lovely but not Vi (like out of corrie) Why not use leaf as a middle name. My ds wanted to call his sister Fiona or Shrek, we avoided both. Poppy and daisy are lovely too or go French and have fleur.

llynnnn · 24/09/2008 22:52

only like Violet out of those, sorry!

bookswapper · 24/09/2008 22:48

Clementine is my 90 yr old chain-smoking high-rise living grannys name

she's called Clemma for short or Clem

how we gasp now its back in fashion! Never in a million years.....

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 24/09/2008 22:40

I say Greta or Violet as the first is my middle name and the second is my dd middle name.
not biased at all But I too love romily
