What does anyone think? Our parents HATE it, but I think it's lovely. Although don't like thought of it being shortened to Carl...

'This is Carlton, your doorman'

(Rhoda, circa mid-seventies)

PeppermintPatty · 14/09/2008 19:49

It's the name of a pub I used to go too. Frequented by punks and crusty types.

frazzledoldbag34 · 14/09/2008 19:37

I learnt to drive in a Vauxhall Carlton. It was silver and we called it Stan.
Irrelevant but true.
What else is on your list or are you decided on Carlton?
(tries to divet OP from the horror of Carlton)........

and my BIL lives in Carlton in Nottingham

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/09/2008 19:35

there was a thread about this name a while ago - it just makes me think of 'this is Carlton your doorman' from 'Rhoda', if anyone ancient remembers it !

lottiejenkins · 14/09/2008 19:33

Is my friends husbands name and he is lovely!

ethanchristopher · 13/09/2008 21:48

i think it is the itv network...

"carlton central"

Heated · 13/09/2008 21:41

It falls into that bland surnamey category that will date imho - sorry to align with the parents on this.

pointydog · 13/09/2008 21:37

There is no need for them but they are very interesting and fun

magnolia74 · 13/09/2008 21:33

Wouldn't be on my list but its your baby your choice. Don't see the need for all these 'Tell me what you think of this name' threads though. You all end up calling them what you want anyway

itsallsoscary · 13/09/2008 21:30

Thanks!! We may call our second 'Holiday Inn' (or Radisson!)
Thanks very much for all your thoughts.

good name

don't worry about the parents, my mum hated my choice (my dad may have done too but is too nice to say!) but absolutely loves it now, cos she loves her grandaughter.

lou031205 · 13/09/2008 21:03

Nice, but first thought is Fresh Prince of Bel Air!

pointydog · 13/09/2008 20:53

Sheraton
Ramada
Jarvis
Holiday Inn

Flibbertyjibbet · 13/09/2008 20:52

This was on my list for ds1!
You are the only other person I've known of to consider it. I knew a Carlton when I was younger, he was quite normal Go for it, its a lovely name

Thanks to the people who have commented constructively. Mutt, I posted to gauge opinion. I wanted to know what people thought about the name. I do not consider such a gorgeous name to be a burden (by the way, it's burdEn, not burdOn...)
Thanks to all posters, especially those who have been thoughtful and constructive in their replies. X

It's OK - one of the producers of Lost is Carlton (Cuse)

expatinscotland · 13/09/2008 19:56

it's a hotel.

chandellina · 13/09/2008 19:55

i think it's fine - go with what you like.

PuppyMonkey · 13/09/2008 19:37

There's a place here in Nottingham called Carlton. It's comparatively highbrow - but you wouldn't want to be called it...

Anyone actually LIKE it?? Or will we have a little boy with a name everyone hates? And anyone have any ideas about what would work as a middle name? Thanks
