Lydia, Aurora or Bella?

DisenchantedPlusBump · 06/09/2008 19:20

Lydia was our original name (that I liked and convinced DH of)but I went off it, but have gone back to it a little now ..

then we decided together on Aurora and I made the stupid mistake of telling my mum who did the 'oh...ermmm... thats nice' thing

We were planning on calling her Rorie most of the time, not Aurora constantly.

And I love Bella. But DH needs convincing!

Out of the 3 what would you say?

There are hundreds of Bellas round this way. Suggest one of the others.

All gorgeous

I like Aurora best

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 12/09/2008 09:56

Yes, I thought of Lydia the tattooed lady - which is a song my father sings - but I guess it's only people of my parents' generation who know it. And, anyway, aren't tattooed ladies now officially cool (as long as it's a tasteful tattoo, of course)?

mrsmalumbas · 12/09/2008 09:32

I should add though that a lot of people especially those of the older generation do sing "Lydia oh Lydia, have you met Lydia, Lydia the tattooed lady,,," when they meet her!

mrsmalumbas · 12/09/2008 09:30

I have a Lydia too. I think it's a gorgeous name. I also like Bella, but I think Lydia is more sort of classic, it's pretty classsless if that makes sense and is pretty but also in a way that will also suit an adult. Of course I am completely biased I know since I chose the name! Mine is a Lydia May.

I approve!!!

I love Aurora. I really wanted it but Dh vetoed on the basis that you can't shorten it and what if she had a speech impediment and had to pronounce it "Aworwa"? (seriously, that was his reason!).

ethanchristopher · 12/09/2008 07:45

oh i love them all!

i think in order

aurora
bella
lydia

The Twilight books are very good

I've got a Lydia Athene, so good choice on your part

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 11/09/2008 22:15

I'd vote for Lydia. Bella, I think in my boring way, is an abbreviation rather than a name in itself and Aurora doesn't sound right unless you can do the soft Italian r sound (which I can't). Again because I'm a dull old stick in the mud, I wouldn't call a girl Rory (however it's spelt) under any circumstances.

DisenchantedPlusBump · 11/09/2008 19:06

Thats where I got Bella from actually

If she was a boy she would probably be Edward, lol.

We have decided she will be Lydia Aurora

Bella is going to get popular because of the Stephanie Meyer books I'd imagine. Lydia's definitely got more popular - when DD was born (2003) I only knew one other but lately I keep hearing it (seems to be a lot of 2/3 YOs) luckily I'm not that bothered that DD now has a 'popular' name.

Aurora was sleeping Beauty (Ariel was the Little Mermaid)

zazen · 10/09/2008 10:18

Lydia is so popular here in Ireland since Pride and Prejudice - the naughty younger sister who eloped with the gambling wastrel.

Bella / Belle /Isabelle is everywhere, you can't move in a playground for the Bellas - and IMO a bit Disney Princess, as is Aurora - she's the Mermaid? Why not Cinderella?

Astrid is lovely, as is Ariadne. I quite like Leda also and Isuelt / Isolde.

Names are fun to think about: we had all kinds of names for our DD and she only looked like one of them when we eventually saw her - I gave her 'my' favourite name as a middle name. And I never told anyone about names, as I didn't want to hear great aunt Madeline's etc etc opinion.

LadyG · 10/09/2008 10:06

All really pretty. Why not see which suits her when she pops out??? We had 2 names in mind for DD and one just seemed to be more 'her' even at 1 hour old...

Tinker · 09/09/2008 22:10

85th doesn't make it too popular! Lydia, definitely.

MingMingtheWonderPet · 09/09/2008 22:06

Lydia is lovely

Aurora reminds me of Sleeping Beauty, so not a good choice.

puffling · 09/09/2008 22:01

Lydia is a beautiful name in itself, but I'd be put off as it's now very popular (85th most popular name 2007). Aurora is lovely but a mouthful. Bella is pleasant and can be a diminutive of some lovely names.

Sputnik · 09/09/2008 21:57

Lydia by a long way

DisenchantedPlusBump · 09/09/2008 21:55

Nope, I didn't. not relly into barbie in this house with 2 boy toddlers! Doesn't bother me though, I originally picked Lydia from 'beetlejuice'! lol

Am thinking Lilah now aswell.

I still prefer Lydia, did you know its the name of the badie in the new Barbie film?

steviesgirl · 08/09/2008 21:54

Lydia is a lovely name. Don't care for either of the others, sorry.

Umlellala · 08/09/2008 21:17

Hang on, what happened to Rosalie?

Lydia is a great name (my cousins have a daughter called it, otherwise it could well be dd's name) and I like Aurora or Rorie too!

Do you like Aphra*/Astra? (dd's name but no offence taken!) Am also desperate for someone to use ds's girl name - Ariadne (nickname Ari...)

notnowbernard · 08/09/2008 21:03

Bella

3andnomore · 08/09/2008 21:03

Lydia is the winner hands down
