I take it there's a spelling free-for-all going today? Or have I misunderstood?

HonoriaGlossop · 10/09/2008 20:14

I think.....you must be having a larf!
or if not, she's got her naming inspiration from watching the Jerry Springer show.
(lots of large, crazy, chavvy types with mullets spring to mind, all shouting at and punching each other whilst wearing shell suits)
Either way, not good.
Poor child.

Although who am I to judge? Perhaps, one day, Teyla will become the next Prime Minister?

Mamazon · 08/09/2008 22:54

its a chav name attempting to be faux ponce by mispelling it.

sorry

Fimbo · 08/09/2008 22:53

Not for me.

ravenAK · 08/09/2008 22:49

Well, if your friend thinks it's pretty or it has some resonance for her, then who are we to comment?

But I can tell you that teachers often make assumptions about kids based on names.

You score minus points for:

  • invented names
  • characters from low brow TV shows
  • phonetically spelt variations on 'accepted' names.

Teyla ticks all 3 boxes! I'm not saying it's fair, but it happens.

Reginaphilangy · 08/09/2008 22:40

Really Not Good.

MrsMattie · 08/09/2008 21:37

That's awful

bandie · 08/09/2008 21:14

sounds like you are trying to hard to be exotic. Is a bit common, even thought it is totally not common if you see what I mean.

i hate really made up names. people will always be getting it wrong. Also, what does it mean?

MrsBadger · 06/09/2008 17:43

rofl at 'standing out from all the other Taylors' - why not choose a different name thn, eh?

Talia is rather nice though - I know several of varying ages

Anglepoise · 06/09/2008 17:28

I hadn't actually connected it with Taylor!

It sounds like a manmade fabric.

Jazzicatz · 06/09/2008 17:27

Maybe thats where they got it form!

Reminds me of the character in Stargate Atlantis too.

Teyla

DoubleBluff · 06/09/2008 17:26

JHKE · 06/09/2008 16:55

actually i like it ...just for info - its a characters name in stargate atlantis.

princessflo · 06/09/2008 16:47

I really dont like the name Taylor esp not on a girl but i think this spelling is nicer as it's actually spelt how its said, and will stand out from all the other Taylors

Lomond · 06/09/2008 16:44

Sorry but I hate it, I hate misspelt names. Not keen on the original version but at least it is a real name.

steviesgirl · 06/09/2008 16:42

It's not a name I'd choose. Just doesn't seem very feminine to me. I personally like traditional names. But your child, your choice at the end of the day. Just make sure you call her a name that she won't be bullied because of.
